Our first Ryokan experience that we will never forget! The staff was great and the facilities are amazing. They have a big variety of onsen bath to choose from, public and private ones. And the private ones don't require a reservation or extra charge, which makes the experience more comfortable. You don't need to think about rushing in or out of the bath, can just relax. The dinner and breakfast was also great, thanks to the good service of the staff! If we ever get back to Japan, we will come here again.

Small and cute place to be. Once you get to the train station or bus stop, give them a call and they will come pick you up. You can walk if you want, but it does go uphill a little bit if you have suitcase with you. Staff is really nice and accommodating. We did have one of our friends ending up pregnant on the trip after we had booked the trip and she was not able to eat many of the foods. They were really nice and worked with what she could eat and even gave her a little omamori (like a charm) for her healthy and safe pregnancy and birth. Would recommend to others. The individual onsen in each room is wonderful and if you want to have more people gather together, get the bigger rooms. Mt. Fuji is visible but understand that it depends on time of day and season. Due to the smaller space, there is only one area to gather downstairs, which is also where you check in. Not a big deal for us, but for those who wants like a whole area to walk around in the hotel, then may want to look at those bigger hotels.

Our family made a special trip from Tokyo to Nagano, and besides exploring the surrounding attractions, watching the snow monkeys soaking in the hot springs of Nozawa, and visiting the Togakushi Shrine, the highlight of this trip was staying at Issa no Komichi Biyu no Yado. Initially, we had modest expectations, thinking of it as just another experience. However, upon arriving in the snowy Yudanaka Shibu Onsen, we were immediately impressed by the warm and professional hospitality. From the thoughtful reception to the exquisite dinner and the unique public onsen, every aspect exceeded our expectations and left us pleasantly surprised. This wasn’t just a hotel stay—it was an unforgettable journey into the heart of Japanese onsen culture. If you’re planning a trip to Nagano, this is definitely a place worth visiting to experience the perfect blend of hot springs and nature!

The hotel is elegantly decorated, with exquisite furnishings and a very Japanese style. The hotel is about 500 meters away from Yudanaka Station. It is not in the same location as the Shibu Onsen Street and the hotel group near Yudanaka Station. It is a slightly deserted location. This Japanese-style river view room has a large area, is very warm in the room, and the window view is also unique. The room facilities are also complete, and there are drinks and snacks for check-in. However, the Japanese tatami feels a bit hard, and the pillow feels bumpy when sleeping. The sound insulation is poor, and you can hear footsteps upstairs. The breakfast is relatively rich, but there are more Japanese meals, and I am not used to it. The overall feeling is still good.

The hotel is old and the food is of average quality. For skiers, the traffic is not particularly convenient, but it is better than the lotus pond or the ichinose. . However, the hotel service is very good, especially the front desk manager Zen, very warm, and English is very good, it is called the hotel's smashing.

I highly recommend this hotel, it should be one of the best in Nozawa. The rooms are spacious and the hotel staff are also very professional and enthusiastic. I especially recommend the hotel's own hot springs, which have very good facilities and are decorated in a romantic atmosphere. It happened that after skiing, it was snowing, and the open-air hot spring felt particularly good.

It's a 10 mins walk uphill from train station so maybe better to try to contact them for a complimentary pick up. The place is super grand and 2 onsens. A Instagram worthy one that the males and females get to use it at different timings. The shower stuff in the onsen are mediocre though. No fancy facial stuff for women unlike some other onsens at this price range. We had breakfast and dinner for the 2 nights. And well worth it. But you have to follow a fixed timing and we felt a bit rushed but otherwise it was really great and service perfect. We had one the biggest rooms I believe Room 716. Had a sitting area and also a sleeping area. Easily fits 8 persons. We were only 2. In the day they kept the futons and brought it out at night. Towels changed every night. There is a van that goes straight to Mount Yokoteyama ski resort. The receptionist didn't seem to know about it but you could try to Google. It was a complimentary ride to and fro if you bought the lift tickets. Took only like 30 mins to get there. You can get rentals at hotels there.

From the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

GGuest UserThe room was very comfortable and clean, and the bedding was great. The refrigerator has free drinks juice and beer, and it is free to fill up every day. The private soup in the villa is also very good, very comfortable and private. We booked breakfast and have Japanese and Western options (not buffet form). The location of the villa is convenient, just a few minutes walk from Hell Valley Park, and 2 minutes from the bus stop. It is very convenient to go skiing in the snow field. In short, it is a very good hotel. If money is not a problem, it is highly recommended. If the only drawback is that if you play other places in Nagano, you need to have a transportation to Nagano and then continue. We chose the bus, about 1 hour to Nagano. In addition, if you take the electric rail to Yudanzhong Station, it is a bit awkward to get off the bus. After asking for a long time, I realized that there is a small house opposite the station that can dispatch a taxi, 3.5 kilometers, 1700 yen. I have already suggested to the hotel that I should leave the hotel mailbox for better communication. At present, the platform provides Japanese phone calls. Who will call the international long-distance and ask how to get there? I don't know, I didn't call, because even if the hotel tells you, you are also confused and do not know what to do.

GGuest UserSome of the best customer service we've ever experienced. Ms. Abe was wonderful and her English was excellent. The outdoor onsen was perfect, truly beautiful. A big, well landscaped area, truly relaxing. All guests get to reserve 30 minutes of private use each evening, which was wonderful, but you can also go back during men's time, women's time, or mixed if you want to enjoy some more. The breakfast was also very good, and the room was sizeable. This was our favourite stay in Japan.

鈴木福子It was a very fun 2 nights and 3 days! It was the time of check-in that I was worried about before going. It was from 16 o'clock and I thought it was late ~. Arrived before 15 o'clock. If you thought you would go skiing as it was after check-in, you were ready for the room, so I was able to pass it. Thank you for upgraded to ”this is convenient”. I was happy with the room with a high top floor with a high ceiling and a snowy view. It was easy to get in and out of the ski locker and come back from skiing. I was happy with the air spray at the entrance of the ski area. I enjoyed the sunset from the bath and the pool. 3 days, we were able to enjoy it \ (^-^) /
