Came up on the of chance for a very short break the staff are great the location was ideal and food was lovely. We also used the spa and that facilities were great. We certainly would come back again even for afternoon tea or an overnight stay. Peter Kate and Lloyd and particularly Kate and Ana were first class

Not sure where to start pulled up and looked amazing man at reception very nice, went downhill from there already paid for room and breakfast in advance then paid for spa in advance and then they wanted another £50 holding fee. Room wasn’t ready taken for complimentary tea/coffee while waiting we went back 15 mins later and man took us to room which was still being cleaned so back we went to wait another half hour. Finally got into room which was amazing until laid in bed and fell through the middle of the 2 single beds pushed together to make a large bed . Thought we would get a coffee in room but no milk. Went to spa and was very disappointed pool was cold hot tub was full of people so couldn’t use steam room was ok after we put water onto the stone but very small room. Went back to room had shower before dinner but shower was full of flies. Sink so low (great for disabled guests in wheelchair) not for people standing. Went to dinner and not much choice for vegetarians but had the roast as that only choice really. Items not available. Then had dessert which was very overpriced indeed and description wasn’t what the item was to be told that cost £95 one drink each main meal and dessert. Went to breakfast items in menu unavailable again. Went to check out not as friendly as day before paid final bill for food but didn’t get the £50 taken off final bill was told that would appear back on card at some point. Hazard tape on floor carpet dirty and very worn out. Very disappointed not the experience I hoped for and was for husband birthday treat

Definitely go for a superior room. Ours had an oak four poster bed and was massive! Beware the hot water - it’s very hot ! A great location for exploring Somerset: Glastonbury, Wells, Street all a short drive away. We came for 3 nights - worth it.

Truly lovely overnight spa break. This was our third overnight visit to Charlton House. I'd bought an overnight stay (with breakfast) on a cracking Black Friday deal, which always helps. We were very pleased with our room (25), which had its own patio area leading out to the gardens. The room was spacious and comfortable. There were no maintenance issues. The decor is 'shabby chic', so much better than soulless modern hotel rooms. The overnight stay allowed us access to the spa until 9pm, which was a real treat. I've visited the spa numerous times and always enjoy it. Especially after dark, when the facilities are quiet. Part of our plans is the trip to Whitstones chippy for an eat in supper. Only 10 minutes away and great food Breakfast was included in the package and was very tasty. The continental breakfast options had diminished since Monitigo took over. However there was a full plate of hot breakfast and we left well fed. We enjoyed a second visit to the spa, before making the short trip home. What others haven't enjoyed - the decor - I feel makes the place relaxed and homely. I will be looking out for another offer to hopefully enable me to return in the autumn.

Montigo A nice hotel with the experience undermined by poor administration. When we checked in we were told that they required a £50 payment for “incidentals”. I dislike this procedure but many places to it and I little option but to accept it. When I checked out I expected the meal and drinks to be deducted from the £50 - they were, after all, incidentals. But no, instead they insisted that we had to pay for this on the spot and said our £50 would be refunded in a couple of days. 6 days later and two emails sent and I am still waiting. I think that is unacceptable.

I am going to provide a very mixed review. Leading up to our stay I was contacted several times, the underlying reason seemed to be to obtain bookings for lunch and dinner. This has never happened in the many hotels i have stayed in around the world. Our room was expensive at £491.40 for two nights b and b. We were told while waiting for our room to be ready that our shower had broken. We were disappointed by this and also as we approached our room by the condition of the hallway. The floor covering is in very poor condition with safety tape across the width. When we explored our room we discovered workmen had left step ladders and numerous other materials obviously used while trying to attend to the shower. At no point we’re we offered another room or given any compensation for this. We paid in advance for our stay and we’re amazed to also be requested to pay a £50 holding payment. We were also asked to book a breakfast time, which I have never been asked to do before and in reality was totally unnecessary. Parking should also be greatly improved. In conclusion this was an expensive stay in what is a hotel that is in need of a lot of tlc. I really feel our experience was put down to being ‘unfortunate ‘ rather than ensuring we were treated fairly
