Sushi Boutique Hotel

The Sushi Boutique Hotel is really conveniently located diagonally across the road from Yuyuan Gardens metro station Exit 7. Note the hotel entry is on the back of the building if you are looking at it from the metro (Anping St), next to some food shops. If you see the big archway on Lishui St (see photo), go past it, then behind the building & turn left onto Anping St. Take the elevator up to the 4th floor. It is known as "Sushiqingshe Hotel" in Amap. Our didi driver dropped us on Renmin Road, outside the Tim Hortons. From there you walk along the pedestrian alley & turn right onto Anping St. Staff there were helpful although they didn't speak English, translation apps are a must. There is a self-service laundry with 2 washing machines & 2 dryers, detergent provided. It can be busy at night time. Our rooms were nice. Did not smell like smoke, and our beds were the most comfortable we experienced in China (firm but not hard). Blockout curtains let us have a great sleep in! It's very close to markets (one block away), Yu Garden (5 min walk), The Bund (10 min walk), and there is a great pizza restaurant called "Bob" a few doors from the Tim Horton's coffee shop. Heaps of food stalls & restaurants, 150m from the metro. They give you 2 bottles of water a day & you can always ask for more from reception. Help yourself to coffee in the lobby. Note: the bathroom has slightly see-through doors, so might not be suitable for those who embarass easily. We really enjoyed it there.

Everything else except for the rooms is pretty dirty and run down. Especially the carpets in the halls make the whole place stink like crazy. There's also a slight cigarette odor, like in many other hotels in China. Rooms are ok, but nothig amazing by a long stretch. Finding the hotel is quite difficult. In fact, the name under which we booked was literally nowhere to be seen. The elevator lobby looks really random and you have no idea you are entering the hotel. At first, they tried to put us in a room that is one class below the one we ordered, so keep an eye on that and check the photos when you first enter the room. Otherwise, the staff was quite helpful, although I don't really understand why they only have 2 people at the front desk most of the time. It seemed to me they were terribly busy, and this didn't have much time to react to enquiries. Hotel of this size should probably have a few more people there.

We had a great stay at this hotel! The room was beautiful, and the service was excellent — the staff was always helpful with any questions we had. The location is perfect: right in a great neighborhood with lots of restaurants to discover and plenty to explore in the evenings. It’s also very central, so getting around Shanghai was easy. My girlfriend and I felt very comfortable and welcome. Thank you!
