Cape Santa Maria Resort at the north end of Long Island may be challenging to get to, but so well worth the trip. Being a professional pilot, I am well-travelled in the Bahamas and Caribbean, and understand that remote island infrastructure is often less than perfect. This is certainly not the case with CSM Long Island. The desalinated water was some of the best I've tasted anywhere. Our electrical power never flickered, nor did the high-speed Wi-Fi internet. The ice machines were clean and always full of fresh ice, the gift shop stocked with well-suited quality garments and sundry items. The premises were clean and orderly, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The bar and restaurant atmosphere were a "10" for a dreamy tropical vacation. The menu was varied and with rotating specials - the meals delicious, as were the cocktails from the bar. All of the accommodations are just a few steps from one of the finest beaches in the world. Facing west with the Trade Wind breezes from behind, makes for very a calm sea. The sand is a fine white powder great for walking, tapers gradually in depth as you enter the water, and free of shells (easy on the feet and safe for the children).
