I stayed in the solo suite that is connected to Debra’s house. When I get there, there is a sign with instructions. As I’m reading this creepy woman, Debra, sneaks up and starts saying she was worried and just bombarded me. She wanted to come I during the stay to clean dishes! Crazy troll. I said I wasn’t okay with her entering during my stay. I finally got to the room and she had sprayed so many chemicals that I had a serious allergy attack. The room was also so hot it took several hours to cool it down. On the second day, she just barged in. She completely ignored the fact that I didn’t want her in there. I paid a ridiculous amount of money to feel creeped out the whole time. I left two days early because I was so uncomfortable.

When I was planning my second trip to Alaska, I only wanted to stay in one place in Seward, the Alaska’s Point of View’s Moonshine Quonset hut. It is away from the maddening crowds, in a quiet neighborhood and walkable to downtown Seward and Resurrection Bay. It is very quirky inside, but fun to look at everything. There is a living room, eat in kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and a back room with a futon, tv and access to the rear deck. On the deck there are multiple chairs and a gas grill. You can not beat the comfort, convenience and the price for a wonderful stay. I highly recommend the Moonshine and the owner Debra. Thank you for another wonderful stay. The only thing missing this year were all of the bunnies in the backyard.

Overall the value is good, as other options are so expensive, and we really enjoyed having the space. We stayed in the Moonshine hut during a spell of rainy weather, so spend more time in the hut than planned, and was very glad for the space. The location is excellent-- in a residential neighborhood, very quiet, and within easy walking distance of downtown, and I could walk to Safeway and the train depot in about 40 min. The front of the house faces the street, and blinds give privacy, but really, even in mid-August, there was barely any car or pedestrian traffic. The back room overlooks a yard, the house across the street, and there is a partial, but satisfying view of the water and distant mountains. There is very little privacy on the back deck, but then again, there are very few people out and about. The positives: Very clean, very roomy. The couches are comfortable, and low to the ground, which as a short person, I adore. There's a massage chair, for what it's worth-I didn't try it and my partner found it vigorous. The kitchen is equipped to cook full meals. The futon in the back room is comfortable. Lots of bedding, generous access to toilet paper and soap. Nothing was torn or chipped. Space heaters available, and we needed them! Excellent water pressure and very hot water. There is a terrific washer and dryer--they looked new, and are large and the kind that don't take 3 hours to finish. The negatives: Now this is totally subjective: I didn't much care for the atmosphere, which is sort of boho/shabby chic...not even chic, mostly shabby. Very clean, and remember--nothing torn or raggedy, and no bad smells, but it felt as if we were staying among the castoffs of others--like what one would get at Goodwill, or has been in the family a long time. The massage chair looked well used. OTOH, after a while, it started to feel as though we were staying at Great-grandma's house-and that added a cozy/laidback feel. The last time the handmade guidebook to the area was updated, a fee that was listed as $8 is now $20+ dollars--which fits with the sense that most things in the hut have been there a while. The weather was rainy and grey the whole time we were there, and with the lack of light (as expected in a Quonset), I found it a bit depressing. The back futon area can be reached only by walking through the main bedroom, or from the back deck. The futon in the back bedroom wasn't made up into a bed, and it was very heavy and not easy to get flat. Once flat, it was very comfortable. That some of the lightbulbs gave blue light instead of warm light didn't help. The fiberglass shower stall is tiny-- and I suspect anyone over 225 lb is going to be touching the sides. There's a $5 charge for one load of laundry; I would have liked to have seen the first load be included, so that it feels like a kindness. Laundry soap was provided. It's honor system, and there also appears to be a bluetooth temperature sensor next to the dryer, so perhaps a "trust but
