This hotel was a little gem of a find on an unexpected road trip from southern to northern Spain (due to UK Air Traffic Control issues). Online reviews looked good and the location was perfect in respect of the area around which we planned to make our first overnight stop. On arrival we were greeted by two very friendly and welcoming reception staff, one of whom showed us two rooms which were available to accommodate our family of four. The hotel is beautiful, blending the old building with modern twists and furnishings. The sizeable outdoor pool set in its own garden was the perfect way to cool off after a very long drive. The inner courtyard is stunning and made for a perfect setting for our pre-dinner drinks. We dined in the very atmospheric and beautifully appointed restaurant where many main dishes are cooked on coals at the side of the main seating area. The smell of the charcoal and cooking was fantastic and the food was superb and very tasty. A very good wine list gave us a great choice. Having just driven through the wine region of La Mancha, it was an easy decision to opt for a very nice bottle of Finca Antigua Reserva (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah blend) which accompanied our meat beautifully. The service was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The rooms were perfectly adequate and air-conditioned. The hotel is quiet and tranquil yet has a wonderful understated buzz about it. Breakfast the following morning was offered for a small additional cost and was adequate if a little limited but it was perfect to get us ready for another long day ahead. The town of Cuenca itself is gorgeous so this hotel is perfect for anyone transiting the area or perhaps visiting Cuenca itself. We would not hesitate to return.

Advantages: The beautiful castle hotels and prardo hotels are all good places, just across the scenic spot. Disadvantages: The price of this hotel is relatively cheap, but the supporting facilities are less, such as water must be purchased and parking spaces are insufficient. One more thing, restaurants in Cuenca are generally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but you can eat in the hotel!

This is a hotel in a renovated monastery, although you wouldn’t really know except for the facade and the sign. It’s modern and well kept, rooms are spacious ( we had attic rooms) and clean, but lack anything historical. They’re good but like any other modern hotel. You’ll be stepping right onto the main Street that takes you from the old town plaza mayor to the castle area. Can’t beat that.

This hotel is in the new part of the town in one of the suburbs. There is plenty of free car parking outside on the road together with a bus stop for the bus into town. I am in a wheelchair and we could get into the shopping area in 15 minutes. The old town is about 10 minutes away by taxi or a good walk up a very steep hill. The hotel public rooms and bedrooms are light and airy. The view out is better than that looking at the hotel! The reception staff are really helpful and the other staff good as well. We stayed at a weekend so the hotel was very empty and the evening meal was served in the bar but was excellent. One of the best meals we had on this visit to Spain. Breakfasts are served in the dining room and the buffet is excellent with a wide range of cold meats, cheeses, fruit and pastries. If you ask the waiter hot food will be cooked off for you which much more appetising than the standard trays of cooked food stewing on the side. I think the hotel is more of a business hotel during the week but it was great for us. The only ****** was that if you are wheelchair user there is only one bed in the large accessible room. This cannot be split into two single beds. My legs kick at night so my wife needs a seperate bed so once again I had to book a seperate room for her. Seems rather unfair. The room was well fitted out with easy wheelchair access and a sliding door into the wet room, which is large. The shower area has very limited grab rails and my wife had to follow mne into the shower to put the stool behind me. There is no fixed seat in the shower which is a shame. In all a very nice hotel with lots of bars and restaurants nearby and even more in the town centre.

GGuest UserI stayed here for two nights in the sole Suite room they have, right up at the top. It is accessed from the third floor, with a staircase inside the bedroom to take you up to the floor above where everything is located (so it is not accessible for those with reduced mobility). The room was quite old fashioned but very large, and really nothing else matters once you take in the view from the private terrace. There’s a variety of chairs and loungers out there, so if you’re visiting in warmer weather than I was then it would be a fantastic place to sunbathe in absolute privacy (it’s literally the only terrace up there, with no-one overlooking it). The gorge is directly in front, with the old town continuing to snake further up the hill to the left, as well as down to the right towards the newer urban sprawl on the plain below. The Parador and its footbridge are all the way down below on the floor of the gorge. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the Raff San Pedro restaurant in the ba*****t is one of the best in town. This is not a hotel for those who cannot manage hills, but then again Cuenca generally probably isn’t the place to go if you’re in that condition! Lovely, peaceful, relaxing stay. Very glad I followed the recommendation in the Rough Guide and chose this hotel.
