This guesthouse is approx. 20-25 minutes walking distance from JR Kakunodate station. The owner was attentive and there was free bike rental.

First of all, it is a guesthouse so I am not expecting the level of service that I will get from a hotel. Full respect to the owner as she run a restaurant and a guest house at the same time with very limited staff. She is friend and fluent in English but let focus on what will get from staying there. First, the shower room is outside the building (right next to it) and you will get wet when it is raining. And, they charge 100 yen to borrow a face towel, 200 yen to borrow a body towel which I am not expecting at all. Honestly, I would bring my own towel if I knew they would charge for that. But the most important issue is the strong petrol smell in the building, I read some reviews on Google Maps and people said that it may be caused by the fuel they used for heating. But I don't smell anything in the restaurant and I am wondering why it is so strong on the second floor. Honestly, it was not a good feeling to sleep with that smell because I don't know if it will be harmful to myself.

The must-visit cherry blossom and maple viewing place in Akita must be [Kakunodate]. It is also the hometown of samurai with a long history in Japan and is known as "Olu's Little Kyoto". But accommodation here is very expensive, especially during the cherry blossom and maple leaf seasons. It is even harder to find a room. During the maple leaf season, I booked a low-cost accommodation four months in advance (Kakunodate B&B Fengya) for ¥996/2 nights including breakfast. So this is one of the few B&Bs. The Japanese female boss speaks English very well and is very enthusiastic. She personally prepares breakfast with local ingredients. She also serves lunch and afternoon tea, and also sells handmade food. The B&B has free bicycle rentals, so you can easily visit all the samurai houses in Kakunokan. Most of the Japanese locals and foreigners who stay here, as well as *********, can speak English. Old people like us from the mainland who cannot speak Japanese or English are purely isolated cases. The landlady was afraid that we might have some problems, so she specially invited Mr. Ren, a retired (Chinese) teacher from Kakunodate University to come and ask us if we had any problems! The boss lady learned that we had to book a taxi to take us to Kakunodate JR Station at 6:30 tomorrow, but the taxi service at Kakunodate starts at 8 o'clock. The boss lady personally took us to the train station despite her busy schedule. I was really touched! However, the B&B does not have a pick-up station service. When we arrived, we took a taxi to the B&B for 800 yen.

I was leaving early the next morning, so I searched for a good value place to stay without meals and found this place. It's a little far from the station, but I was able to relax in the bottom bunk of a bunk bed.
There's a kitchen, microwave, cooking utensils, etc., so I think it's suitable for people who want to do a lot of things themselves.

The room is not big, but it is good as a homestay. The owner's service is also very thoughtful and worth recommending.

A very authentic B&B, a bit far from the town center😄 Everything else is good!

Simple accommodation, not very cost-effective, and the lady boss is pretty nice.
But maybe I have a not-so-friendly dog. The smell of dog hits my nostrils as soon as I walk in, which is a bit unbearable. Now they no longer give hot spring coupons, but the store has built a simple shower room themselves. You still have to walk outside the house. It is very dark and inconvenient, and there is no place to put clothes.
