What a brilliant couple of nights away. The Cross Keys Inn is a delight. We were met by the owner Rory and Holly who immediately made us and Grace our dog feel welcome, had a chat and helped us with our bags to our room. On our first evening we were really well looked after by Holly and on the second by Rebecca. The food was extremely tasty, well presented and value for money. We had the fish & chips, mushroom & lentil cottage pie and prawn & monkfish laksa as well as the veggie breakfast over the 2 days and evenings but the tomato and basil soup was out of this world. It wasn't just soup,it was a work of art !!!!!. The beer and wine we sampled were very drinkable. The rooms are extremely comfortable and spacious. We stayed in Glebe, one of the dog friendly rooms. Thankyou to Rory and all of his staff who made our mini break away so special. As well as the lovely atmosphere of the inn and the delicious food and drink, your hospitality makes it the perfect package. We will definitely be back when in the area or travelling through because places like this are few and far between. Best Wishes for the future. Tim,Wendy & Grace x

If you get the opportunity, this is definitely a place to visit. The trip exceeded our expectations in all aspects. From the greeting, at the door when we arrived to the breakfast before we left. The staff are amazing, friendly and very welcoming. We were shown to our room and helped with our bags. The room was a good size, clean and cosy and the bed was very comfortable. When we went downstairs, the welcome was again there from staff and locals and we were invited to sit by the fire with our drink. The food was very good, not a massive menu but more than adequate and the quality was top notch, which is a preference of mine. A truly exceptional place buried away in the Borders of Scotland, hospitality at its absolute best.

The cross keys is in lovely countryside on checking in we were made to feel very welcome. We were in Helmburn such a comfy bed I can’t say how amazing it was great sleep. Lots of hot water and I mean hot. The evening meal I only had a starter as we’d been travelling up from Wales and I don’t do well in a car. Truffled mushrooms with a side salad very tasty. My other half had the fish and chips which he said was excellent he also had pudding which was apple and blackcurrant crumble again he loved that. Following morning we both had breakfast which was tasty. Small point a small empty milk jug for each table so we could help ourselves to the milk and have extra on the table other than that brilliant stay would highly recommend

Incredibly warm reception by all the staff & bent over backwards to accommodate us. This place is so lovely & a great atmosphere. The room was clean, comfortable and very spacious. Some thoughtful nice touches like fresh milk for teas/coffees- went down very well. Will definitely be coming back

My wife and I stayed in the Helmburn Room on Saturday 15th February and had a wonderful time. The room has dual aspect windows, a great bathroom and the comfiest bed imaginable. The food at the Cross Keys is great, albeit with limited main courses for vegans. We still enjoyed our Bang Bang Cauliflower with Noodles (more 'bang' next time please) and my mushroom starter was divine. Breakfast was a real treat as I'd mentioned at the time of booking that we would like a vegan cooked breakfast and wow! - the chef prepared a special breakfast for us, including spinach, avocado, and more of those delicious mushrooms. All the staff we spoke to were so friendly, it was hospitality at its very best. Such lovely people. The Cross Keys is a gem in a fabulous part of the world and we can't wait to return.

Lovely pub with a great character. Very friendly welcome and warm atmosphere. The food, we had the raclette, was delicious and it was entertaining to see the cheese getting ready. The service was efficient and pleasant. Looking forward to our next visit.

A very comfortable stay with a lovely room which was cosily warm on a cold night. We enjoyed an excellent meal sitting beside a log fire in the evening. Breakfast had plenty of choices. Very nice toiletries in the bathroom. Plenty of parking available.

We stayed at the Cross Keyes whilst visiting the borders. It came out top from review of trip advisor suggestions and did not disappoint. It was easy to find with car park at the rear of the building. Spaces are clearly marked for inn guests as there is private parking there as well. On entering the inn we were warmly greeted and check-in was a breeze compared to some hotels. Lovely welcoming feeling, and we were shown to our room. Our room was at the front of the building next to the road but very limited traffic on the road so no noise issues. Bed was comfy and plentiful supply of tea and coffee. Plenty of storage space and love the towel art. If eating at the inn, and please do so as meal was lovely, then best to book. I'm sure they would try and fit you in, but all it needs is a rugby team to book in (we were there over 6 nations weekend) and space might be difficult to find. Lovely service at diner and food was well cooked and presented. Breakfast is a choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit and selection of cooked to order items. Good start and end to the day. They say the staff make a place and this applies here. Add in the lovely venue out in the countryside and it's all very good. Will definitely be back next time in the area.
