Our suite was clean and the bed was comfortable with a modern mattress and attractive beddings. The room was charming and the decor plays to the hotel's 100 years of existence. However, while the claw foot tub and pedestal sink in the bathroom were charming, they were very inconvenient to use and the tub is downright dangerous. The common areas of the hotel are in desperate need of renovation for basic accessibility and safety - the stairs were rickety, dark, and unsafe and the second floor is not level. Most of the windows in our room were unusable and it was warm, luckily we were able to open the balcony door for cool air - no a/c. There was no staff on duty during the 7 AM hour, no coffee, nothing, and as noted by others, no coffee available in the room. While the stay was fine, I wouldn't return - this hotel is in desperate need of a complete physical reconstruction. And, given the lack of staff and amenities, I'm not sure advertising the Shelburne as a "hotel" is even accurate, it's more like a bed and breakfast without the breakfast.
