I attended the APEC meeting in Seattle and was looking for a moderately priced hotel that would fit my DSA. Most hotels were priced beyond my daily allowance then, to my relief, I found Baroness Hotel. I am giving it a 5 star because its service is very commensurate to its price. It is not a starred hotel, so, I am not expecting 5-star service and amenities...... The building, the furniture, and the fixture in Baroness are dated. I was expecting the room to smell its age, but to my surprise and relief, there was no old-age smell. When I opened the drawers, the only thing old was the facade. The inner wood was new but the old look was preserved to the missing drawer handle. Amazing...

The area is relatively safe but noisy at night. Getting around by bus can be expensive. If I go again, I will find hotels with walking distance to the Link light rail cause it reaches the airport and many must see areas.

I don't disagree with the condition of the rooms as described elsewhere: pretty worn and tired-looking. My problem is when I got home the day after my stay there was a mysterious $50 charge on our bill (we had just left our key cards in the box provided for them at the front desk when we checked out - nobody was at the desk at 11:00 AM). When I called the hotel later that night, David, the night clerk was unable to explain to me the purpose of the $50 charge. He kept repeating that it was for "incidentals" but there are no "incidentals" at this hotel: no food or drink in the room, no facilities to use, no movies or pay TV, nothing. His last words to me were, "Jesus Christ! Call the manager in the morning," and then he hung up on me. In my 60+ years of travel I have never experienced treatment like this anywhere.
