This was a very nice hotel to stay in with exceptional service from the desk manager. I was walking the Camino and getting my luggage transferred with a company. Unfortunately there was a mix up and my luggage was sent elsewhere. The desk manager was extremely helpful in this stressful situation and helped solve the problem.

Stayed here on our Camino journey. Nice clean room, comfortable beds, piping hot water…..all one needs after a days walking. It was vey wet on the evening we stayed so we decided to eat in the bar/ restaurant. Surprisingly none of the wait staff had any English so with our limited Spanish it took a while to order some food. Service was charming but a bit haphazard in that our main courses were delivered before our starters. Food however was quite tasty and very inexpensive. Breakfast on the following morning was really busy but on this occasion the wait staff spoke excellent English. Good selection of cereals, fresh juices, bacon/ eggs and cold meats. Very tasty. Much of the crowd staying were walking on the Camino. Great stop on the journey.

Stayed at this hotel as the first stage of the Sarria to Santiago Camino. While it is in a good location to start, the hotel itself is average at best. The room is large, but it had just a bad lingering smell of old cigarettes that I'm sure back in the day everyone smoked in the hotels. It was nauseating. And again it being an old hotel, there is no sound insultation at all, you could hear everything. Was not a great sleep to start the Camino. If you can stay somewhere else, do it.

Hotel Alfonso IX is located along the river Sarria, just at the foot of the old town's hill. It brands itself as a 4-star hotel but lacks some of the standard features of such ranking, like bathrobe and slipper and a basic supply of amenities and toeletries (we even asked reception for a simple sewing kit and it wasn't available). The room was very large and well designed, with also some cool design detail in the bathroom, itself very big, but the shower head was defective and the level of cleanness needs to be improved. The breakfast was a negative experience, with an acceptable buffet but an inaccurate service, with only two waitresses tending to far too many customers, hence they were stressed, inefficient and rude. An acceptable place for a night in Sarria considering the large room, but definitely not a real 4-star hotel!

We arrived to Sarria to do El Camino. Arrival to Sarria train station. Hotel is a “walk distance” from train station. Not too bad but there were too many options in downtown. The hotel is old. Rooms have a nice size and lots of interruptors for your devices. Breakfast is buffet type. It was ok. Coffee not strong as I will prefer, but you can pay at the bar for something better (as well as for natural orange juice as the one in the Buffett was too rich in sugar). F you ask me if I will book this hotel again, I will say”only if Md there is no something better available”

Good location. Enjoyed buffet breakfast. Helpful reception. However the most important thing in a hotel stay was an epic fail! Stay away from Room 105! Maybe just got unlucky but between my girl friend and I, we killed more than 30 bed bugs in one night. No further words to describe our stay.

We arrived in Sarria by bus, and walked with our luggage about a mile to reach our stay the eve of our Camino. We found the staff to be friendly and the food was good as we prepared for the start of our walk. Our rooms were basic but comfortable enough. We did open the window for some air (not sure if A/C was weak or non existent) but it was a cool night (in the 40's). A bit of noise but we slept okay. Just across the river from start of the day's walk!
