The Plaza Madeleine was our excellent base for our small group tour of Sarlat and the Dordogne and Vezere valleys. Extremely comfortable room for my spouse and I, with excellent food (especially the breakfast buffet), a fine bar with inside and outside service, and pleasant touches throughout. The heated pool with jacuzzi and attached spa with sauna was a welcome surprise. We would return in a flash.

The hotel is lovely in an excellent location. Our room was well appointed as are the common spaces. The service was excellent. However, a significant drawback is that the lighting in the room is poor. For example, it is difficult to read at night.

Quick summary: a very comfortable stay in a clean, quiet room in a full-service hotel. Easy walk to center of town. Very helpful, friendly, professional staff. Very good breakfast buffet, cocktail bar, restaurant. Parking available on the street, but the hotel,s parking is a long walk away. We actually stayed in three different rooms my during our 10-night stay, so we saw the differences in different categories of rooms. I will describe details below, but briefly, we booked one night in advance of a tour we would join that would stay at that hotel. We could not confirm the category of room with the tour operator, so we booked our usual preference - a king bed. When we joined the tour, we found ourselves in a room with a queen bed and fewer amenities. We decided to pay an upcharge to move back to a nicer king bed room, but stayed two nights in the queen due to lack of availability. Frankly, the queen bed room was really nice enough, but my husband loves a larger bed. First, all our rooms looked onto the front street. All were quiet enough. All beds were very comfortable, with lots of pillows and good linens. All at least had a roomy walk-in shower; room 206, a king bed room billed as “prestige,” also had one of those large, deep, soaking tubs that I find so hard to get into and out of (high kick and gymnastic moves, or sit on the edge of- with no grab bars anywhere - and swing your legs in. All need more bars to hang a wet towel. Shampoo and body lotion are provided. All had good HVAC, coffee/tea maker, good desk and ergonomic chair, minibar, in-room safe, TV that has some English language channels as well as French ones. (Disclaimer: I usually read at night.) All have complimentary WiFi that could be better - mostly okay, but often dropped out, speed not great. None of the rooms had really convenient places to plug in and recharge your devices. The king bed rooms (206 and 309) had very comfortable Berger-style sitting chairs and a cocktail table. The queen room had only the desk chair. Comfortable sitting chairs are another big thing with my husband, and he loved the bergeres. Only the room 206 king had a pod coffee maker as well as the tea kettle style. The queen room had no shutters or curtains on the window. Of course, the queen room was smaller, but still comfortably acceptable, IMHO. The king bed rooms had good drawer space. The queen bed room had basically none. The breakfast buffet was lavish, with scrambled eggs, sausages, meats and cheeses, fresh fruit cup, yogurt, an array of breads and pastries. Special high marks go to the array of specialty breakfast tarts available each morning, We had cocktails here, and a dinner with the tour group. All was fresh and tasty, reasonable prices, and the menu broad enough to please most. Due diligence: there is nearby street parking that seems safe enough, but not possible on market day (Saturday.). The hotel’s secure parking is a long walk away, IMHO. We parked

Nice little boutique hotel, centrally located at the beginning of the old city in Sarlat. Clean, comfortable and quiet hotel. Rooms are adequate in size and the AC works great. Service was friendly and helpful. Breakfast is €19 pp and probably not worth it for a limited buffet, but you're paying for the convenience.

We found Plaza Madeleine to be a very nice hotel experience, centrally located in Sarlat. The room size was ample and quiet. The staff was very friendly and helpful; and the breakfast included a bunch of French delights. The only negative that we encountered was that the hotel's parking was a 10 minute walk from the hotel. If you don't mind the walk and you have a car, then this hotel is a winner on all accounts.

We have stayed in many hotels over the years and this is easily one of the best. Traditional French decor, spotlessly clean, luxurious ambiance and lovely staff. We are already planning our next trip and will stay longer. Can thoroughly recommend.

I've stayed at the Plaza Madeleine multiple times, and it's always a delight. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms are nicely appointed, and it's perfectly located, not only in the town of Sarlat, but for touring the entire Perigord Noir region. The lavish breakfast buffet is a special treat. And there's nothing I like better than sitting outside on the front patio in the evening enjoying a drink and a little nosh, watching the world go by. I always look forward to coming back!

This is a poorly managed hotel, kind of like the old BBC show Fawlty towers. The rooms are small and stuffy, but the chaotic way things are handled is the real problem. If you go before it’s officially summer even if it’s 85 degrees they will not turn on AC despite their website claim that it’s an air conditioned hotel They should say it’s an air conditioned hotel a couple of months a year. The front desk is often unattended When I was finally able to secure some cooling device in my room that helped me finally get sleep they removed it the next day and could provide literally no explanation for why they did it. I’ve traveled a lot for work throughout my life so I’ve seen a lot but this is the first time I was driven to write a negative review.
