We spend 3 nights at Selva Verde and were very pleased with the experience. We were fortunate to have a room overlooking the Sarapiqui River. The rooms are large with a daybed was large enough to be used if needed for an adult to sleep. Large walk-in shower and spacious bathroom. Chairs and hammock right outside the room door. Extensive covered walkways around the lodge allowed exploration without getting wet. Trails on both side of the road to explore on your own. Primary forest located across the river by way of a suspension bridge accessed with one of the naturalists. Carlos (naturalist) lead us on 2 different hikes on the grounds and we appreciated his knowledge and style. On one of the tours, Carlos, moved effortlessly between explaining things to us in English and then to the others in the tour in Spanish. Our package included food which was served buffet style. The food was not fancy but we appreciated getting to eat local foods. It was hot and plentiful and always included at least 2 proteins. The best part of breakfast and lunch was being able to observe all of the fantastic birds at the feeding stations. I would not hesitate to return and have recommended Selva Verde to others. (The 4 stars on the location is because Selva Verde is located immediately adjacent to the highway and it was pineapple harvest so we noticed the semis jake braking frequently during the day.) Our package was the Selva Verde/Sevegre package. EVERYTHING was taken care of for us prior to arrival. So thankful for all of the transfers being arranged. Tours included at both lodges (we did add a couple more at Selva Verde). Selva Verde made it so easy for us by making all of the arrangements. Thank you!

Selva Verde Lodge in Costa Rica was the perfect family getaway! Despite the rainy weather, the covered walkways made it easy for us to explore the beautiful grounds without getting soaked. The spacious rooms provided plenty of comfort for our family, making it a great retreat after our adventures. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, ensuring we felt right at home. The food was delicious, with a wonderful variety that catered to all our tastes. A special shout-out to Carlos, our naturalist guide! His extensive knowledge of the local ecosystem was impressive, and he was always willing to share tips for capturing the best photos of the stunning wildlife around us. If you’re looking for a tranquil escape with excellent service and plenty of photo opportunities for the whole family, Selva Verde Lodge is the place to be! Highly recommended!

Great hotel. All staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Nice clean and spacious rooms. Good food. Excellent location with covered walkways around the complex which was a great idea. I would like to put out a special mention to Gilbert, one of their onsite naturalists. I was lucky enough to have 3 nature walks with Gilbert during my stay and his knowledge and enthusiasm was fantastic. I learnt a lot about the nature of Costa Rica and saw plenty of wildlife and birds, including frogs, sloth with baby and toucans. Thank you Gilbert and the staff at selva verde lodge for a great couple of days.

Very nice, clean and friendly rainforest lodge. Great breakfast and nice bird observation place directly next to the restaurant. Typical local breakfast but in the evening also nice Italian restaurant available with very nice Pizza. Nice own rai forest hiking path. Nice rooms - friendly staff. Highly recommended. I felt very safe also as Solo Traveler.

I loved staying in the forest bungalows away from the main complex. Hearing so many birds each morning was incredible as well as the bird feeding table by the restaurant. If you are a keen birder this is a great place to stay, although be aware the forest bungalows involve walking up a steep gravel road and carrying bags up steps.

Very nice lodge that is doing many things to protect the environment and be a sustainable business. Very clean, comfortable rooms with good A/C, good lighting, and privacy. Beds were firm. Breakfast is very good with plenty of fresh fruit, yogurt, plus hot breakfast foods…and, of course, good coffee! Excellent internet. Staff is pleasant and ver helpful. We really enjoyed our time there.

Great spot for easy bird watching. There is a big area near the cafeteria where you can just park yourself and enjoy the show as birds arrive at the feeders for most of the day. Early morning is best. There is a lunch/dinner buffet for about 23 or 24 US. Other option is the Italian restaurant that serves pizza and pasta, but no pizza till dinnertime. (?) Tours onsite, ( a little pricey) a pool, and you can book other tours. If you don't have a car, then you have to take a taxi... no ubers. That runs an additional $55 or so. We enjoyed the organic pineapple tour very much... a 10 minute drive away. We did the boat tour from Puerto Viejo. Can be hit or miss re how much wildlife to see, but still an enjoyable day.

A change from our chosen itinerary so started off feeling Negative. On reflection this is a self contained small resort with good trails leading into the jungle (beware of snakes, signs everywhere). You can spot so many birds during the day and frogs at night. Smaĺl but clean swimming pool for the more humid hot times. Main restaurant cafeteria style with buffet food but there is also a pizzeria and bar on site. The downside is that it is close to a major highway and fraffic can be heard day and night. Try to get a room close to the river!
