The reviews I had read were mixed. We arrived around 3 tomorrow a very warm welcome. Our room was #8 in Jaguar. It was not 5 stars, but very clean with good a/c and an awesome shower. Bed was creaky, but we slept well. The grounds were beautifully manicured. The pool was inviting. Food was good, but options are limited. The tenderloin I had was one of the best ever….for the money unbeatable! Hamburger was a 10! Grilled fish…tasty. All the servers were smiling and anxious to please. We will go back next year for 3 more relaxing days

The patio overlooking the pool is a fabulous place to watch wildlife. We saw a variety of birds and lizards. The rooms are spacious and unique. The entire staff were friendly and accommodating. We took the nighttime jungle tour at the lodge next door. It was incredible. We saw so many wonderful reptiles and animals. A sloth, a hummingbird in its nest, an anteater, a kinkajou, several tarantulas and frogs, and more!

Another good rainforest lodge in lovely surroundings. The pool area at the rear is a real highlight and is in a beautiful natural setting with stunning wildlife all around. A delightful place to sit and wait for the beautiful birds to turn up. You also see small lizards and colourful iguanas. The main building is focused for seated dining and also has a cosy bar off one of the seating areas. There is plenty of places to sit for drinks in the evening too. The site has a number of short nature walks to enjoy as well as an archeological site to walk to. It is essentially joined to another lodge hotel by an open gate, which means you can visit the nature reserve and try out a number of their treks into the rainforest to see incredible species. The lodge rooms are all in a series of thatched circular buildings. The room I had was very big and had a great big comfy bed. The air con and fan are great for hot nights. The bathroom is simple and nothing special but ok and clean and did have a great refreshing shower. The rooms are all close to the sound of nature so expect a dawn chorus of birds and bellowing monkeys. You can book trips from here too for other nature excursions nearby. Staff are great. Really helpful and friendly. Great job to all concerned when I stayed.

This may have been a spectacular place in the past. But now it’s dingy and vastly overrated. Yes, the location and grounds are excellent. Lots of wildlife and jungle. But the mattress was very uncomfortable, bathroom was tiny and spartan, and if you want fresh air the only option is opening the porch doors and see the other guests as they walk to/from their rooms. For a self-described green facility, why no screened window? But the restaurant is the worst. The menus never change. Although the ingredients seemed fresh, preparation is fair at best and extraordinarily devoid of flavor. No other options close by so you’re captive to this restaurant. The very worst cocktails imaginable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. But the owner knows the place is a money machine.

We stayed here on our Costa Rica tour. I loved it. My little casita was comfy and it had a private outdoor patio with chairs and a table. It sits in the middle of the rainforest and has a very nice pool, a little library, lots of outdoor social areas, a lovely outdoor dining area, and the best part was the bird feeding station, where we could sit and watch all the incredibly beautiful, colorful birds coming to feed. There is also a small pond with frogs, and lots of paths to wander around. The food was very nice--buffet style--with lots of choices. Service was excellent. The location is good for exploring the rainforest. I would go back again.

Quirky place with separate traditional style ‘huts’ with rooms. The rooms were very spacious. Ours had air on (jaguar), not sure if all of them do but we didn’t really use it. Had a very large double and single bed. Pool is lovely with infinity edge and waterfall. Tip - take water shoes with you, the floor in the pool is really rough. Saw lots of pretty birds and toucans in hotel grounds. We were part of a tour group and the breakfast and dinners were buffet style and good variety. They were a bit naughty at stopping replenishing things if they felt a lot of people had eaten, even if well before closing. Bar prices weren’t’t too bad considering you are in the middle of nowhere, $8 for generous g&t. A fridge and coffee machine in room would have been good. Our room had a really dodgy back door opening onto verandah. Had to virtually kick it down to get out, which scared a few birds away! We didn’t complain as only there 2 nights and we got used to it but was a bit of a nuisance .

After reading some of the reviews I was concerned about staying here, however we had an excellent 2 days. Yes the rooms are quite basic but they are clean & the shower was quite powerful with hot water. The evening meal was good - we had chicken in a mushroom sauce day 1 & steak in a delicious red wine sauce day 2 - both were very good & the accompanying chips were fabulous. Breakfast was sufficent although not a huge choice - fruit, scrambled egg with sausage, rice, plantain. I had a freshly cooked omelet this morning. The pool is small but again fine for a short dip which is what most people want. Yes it has a rocky surround but this is not a problem. Towels are available from reception. The staff have been excellent - very helpful when my husband had a problem with his phone. It has a fabulous location with toucans & howler monkeys seen in the gardens. It is a 10 minute walk from Dave & Dave's excellent wildlife park (see separate review), next door to Tirimbina Lodge where a lot of the trips take place - we did an excellent Chocolate tour from there. We also got a taxi into Sarapiqui for a boat tour along the river - again we had an excellent guide & saw lots of wildlife. Overall we have had an excellent 2 days here & don't agree with many of the previous comments. The hotel is only a 3*! Our only complaint was that the website does not advertise the available trips - this would make it more popular with potential clients.

Room was ok but dark. There was literally nowhere to put anything in the bathroom … no shelves … no hooks. Why not? Generally not clean … As with many hotels in CR, the reception areas and gardens are far better than the rooms. This needs a serious amount of money spent on it.

A lovely pre-Columbian style hotel immersed in the Rainforest wildlife. We had excellent views to the rainforest canopy and saw Howler monkeys and Toucans from our room. The room was comfortable, spacious and had air conditioning. Breakfast and dinner was good and the staff were friendly. The Tirimbina Nature Park was accessible from the hotel and we enjoyed an interesting night walk.
