Be aware before you travel that this hotel has five stars on the basis of its leisure facilities. It is not a five star, but a good three star at best. The hotel is spotlessly clean though, and both the rooms and the apar**ents are of a good size. Be aware that you will be presented with a set of rules suitable not for adults paying for an all inclusive holiday in a five star hotel, but for recalcitrant twenty somethings - no drinks in the lobby, no food or drinks may be taken from the restaurant, and best of all, no drinks may be brought to your room and no room service is available. The vaunted selection of restaurants available is in fact, the restaurant of each of the sister hotels with different themes on different nights, including several which are actually benches underneath awnings in a green space although they are styled as separate restaurants. All of the restaurants are not open all of the nights. You will have to pre book to get a table or otherwise will have no choice but to eat in the underwhelming and understaffed in-house restaurant. In counterpoint to this the staff are without exception - hard working, helpful and pleasant.

My wife & I stayed at the Vale d’el Rei for 4 nights in early October. We visit the Algarve around twice a year and I have to say this is one of the best if not the best hotel we have stayed at in our many visits. First of all, the grounds the hotel sits in are extensive & immaculately kept. There are 2/3 pools, the main pool is salt water and heated during the colder months and is perfect for swimming in. There are enough sun beds, of good quality, to go round & we never once saw beds being reserved by the “crack of dawn brigade” Breakfast is served around the pool area & is a buffet style with plenty of good quality hot & cold options and all overseen by a very efficient & friendly staff who are constantly clearing, cleaning & replenishing food. A wonderful start to each day. We stayed in a suite, which was amazing value for money. It consisted of, an entrance area, a bathroom with overhead shower, a lounge with balcony off & a bedroom with a gigantic comfortable bed with good quality bed linen, double wardrobes with plenty of hangers and a safe that you didn’t have to pay extra to use. If there is a negative & I would have to search very hard for one, it’s that it’s a little remote. Although the hotel does provide a shuttle bus that runs into and from Carvoeiro several times a day. I would recommend you had a hire car which we always use when we visit the Algarve. This tiny negative would 1 million% not stop us visiting again & I have already enquired for our stay in 2024. We came here 6 years ago and were looking forward to coming back. Unfortunately we were left disappointed. We checked in and the toilet in our room was broken. It kept running and consequently the tank refilling. We called reception who sent maintenance up quickly. They ”fixed” it but it still wasn't right and then wouldn't flush fully. We asked to swap rooms which they allowed us to do. As a whole the rooms haven't changed in 6 years which was the problem. They're now looking very dated and worn in need of maintenance. The shower was annoying as it constantly moved from right to left whilst on and at the same time down the shower pole. Meaning you had to hold it with one hand whilst trying to wash with the other. The shower screen also leaked so by the time you've managed to have a shower which took twice as long the floor was soaked. I found myself having to mop it up so that we didn't slip. The toilet seat was also broken on one side so it would slip off. All minor things which add up and could be easily fixed. You also have to pay for the safe which seems a bit crazy. We'd come from two previous hotels on the same trip and not once had to pay for the safe and they weren't 4 star hotels like this one. The pool was nice and pool towels are available. Breakfast was good, you have to select a time slot, I guess due to covid. Be warned you can't use the indoor pool unless you bring or buy a swimming hat. The spa area also looked nice. The air con in the rooms worked well and the beds were comfortable, it's frustrating as this hotel could be really nice but lots of little things let it down, all easily resolved with some TLC but all which make it not worth the money paid.

Just got back from a four night stay in this lovely hotel. The staff where very friendly & helpful. The pool is amazing, just a little cold for us to use this time. No fights for sun loungers, towels provided and a pool side bar. Lovely and quiet, very relaxing. The room has a massive bed which was very comfortable. The only thing I would say is the toilet situation is a little odd. There’s little privacy, it’s a glass box situation. Also if you’re on the ground floor there’s no private balcony. It’s shared. Again I can see there being a bit of an issue with privacy but we had it to ourselves. I would say the room could do with a bin and some sort of screen for the bathroom. If you pull the door for the shower then no one else can use the toilet as it’s only one door for both. Other than that it really was a lovely break and we will be back.

I lived on the 1st floor, everything was old, the room was dark, it was convenient that it had its own exit to the street, like a courtyard, and right to the pool. The pool was a bit old. Very cool friendly staff, they helped with all questions. A little far from the center, but if you have a car, everything is great. There is parking! Quiet area, beautiful beach within walking distance.

This place has polarizing reviews.. After going there, I understand why. The facilities and services are good. You can use the swimming pool, washer and dryer (performance is poor), sauna and spa for free, and although the building structure is unique (1st and 8th floor reception, 2 elevator transfers, etc.), it's okay if you get used to it. We couldn't find the way by taxi, so we climbed the hill with our suitcases, but the reception on the first floor is near the spar mart. They were friendly, but the air conditioner was broken so I called twice and they didn't come so I just gave up. This place is in the middle of the old town, so I actually made a reservation based on the location, but it's literally in the middle of the club street, so even if you're inside the accommodation, you'll be staying at the concert hall all night long. There's no soundproofing, so you have to enjoy it together until 5 a.m. The noise is another level, as foreign reviews say. I’m traveling around the world, but this place is really ambiguous haha. The breakfast isn’t bad, but it’s just ambiguous… . Personally, I think it would be less noisy and better if it wasn't just in this alley because it's Albupay!!
