I was kicked out to the street by the receptionist on Friday, April 5th at 1:15am while waiting for my transport right after dropping off a friend that was a guest of the hostel. The reason the receptionist gave me was that "I was not a guest of the hostel" and that "they have had very bad experiences in the past". I asked him to please let me wait at the reception because being left out alone on the street was quite unsafe especially at that time. The receptionist shouted and demanded that I leave and pushed me out of the hostel and closed the door. It's the most humiliating experience I've ever had in a hostel ever. I wish no one ever experiences something like this.

Real good hostal. We stayed in the private room with public bathroom. The room has been designed real good, compact. It has a tiny balcony which was good. The batrooms were clean but they are so very public so do not expect privacy at all. Breakfast was good. Common areas was good. And they have amazing terrace! What I recommend is terrace could be open on sundays too, since there is almost everything is closed in sundays in Santiago. Special thanks to Katharina❤️ lovely and informetive.

Found this to be quite a good hostel. It gives a free buffet style breakfast (simple I mean there isn't bacon or anything, although you can take two boiled eggs), but cereal, juice, bread, that type of thing. Bed in dorm room was comfortable and you get a wooden locker you can put daypack, laptop and other more valuable parts of your luggage into, as long as you've bought a padlock (which you likely have numerous on your backpack anyway). Staff were friendly, the building seems very secure, showers were very good. Neighbourhood is close to a subway station (only a few minutes walk) which I used when coming from the airport (you catch a cheap public bus to a subway station first). Also next to a park with a big nautical water feature statue, and a short stroll to museums, art galleries and the old buildings area of town. The Funicular is about ten minutes walk away if you're planning on going up there, which links to the cable car at the top of the mountain. A supermarket is five minutes or so down Merced if you walk to the left once you're out the door. Highly recommend. The streets around are a bit noisy with buses but I doubt you'll avoid that anywhere in Santiago.

Had a lovely stay in Hostel Merced, loved the park just opposite and how central it was! I appreciated the relaxed and tranquil vibe the hostel had. The volunteers were so lovely and great to chat to, Anika and Lucy were very sweet! Thank you, Lena

Despite a 24-hour reception and ample space, my experience was very disappointing. Booking for 4 days, I requested only a seat for myself and my backpack upon a night arrival at ~ 2 AM. However, contrary to common hostel rules allowing morning-hour arrivers to quietly relax in social areas before their booked bed is available, I was told that, per their "rules”, staying without payment for the unreserved night hours wasn't allowed. So they astonishingly preferred to kick me back in the cold night on the street. I found shelter in a nearby hostel and went back to check in on the next day. But they meanwhile decided to cancel my reservation as they didn’t like the discussion that night. I think they consider their unusual and intransparent night arrival “rule” (for what reason ever) as the higher good than feeling responsible and welcoming for travelers with cheaper transportation schedules.

Note that it is not possible to make a review on Google. They suck. There are no bathrooms in the rooms. You take a shower while other people are using the toilet. The bathroom is full of mold on the ceiling. They tried to hide it with black paint but it's so heavy that the paint has already broken. I complained about this lack of information on booking and became person non grata. One guest complained about being treated badly by another and then they blamed it on me and sent me out. The guest went there and explained that it wasn't me but someone else, but I continued to be expelled. They said they would refund my daily rates but they didn't. They told Bookin that I behaved badly, that is, I questioned the lack of information about the bathroom. Breakfast is limited, only 1 fruit, 2 slices of cheese and 1 yogurt. There are many other better options in Santiago and with honest gnt.

I loved everything! It's simple. But it served me very well. I stayed for 4 days, in a room for 4 women. Daily cleaning was done and the girls who took care of the cleaning were super neat. Bathrooms clean EVERY DAY, I didn't have any negative surprises. The breakfast is simple, but very complete and served. It has bread, fruit, traditional cake, cereal, yogurt, cold cuts and the possibility of eggs. It also includes juice, coffee or tea! The crazy person at the cafe, each guest washes what they got dirty, which I thought was great because they don't leave the sink/kitchen dirty. I was soooo well attended to by Gaston, Maria Clara, Cate and Gustavo! They helped me a lot with the transfer and with my TERRIBLE portunhol. The rooms do not have air conditioning, but even in the heat, there was plenty of ventilation. Airy room. The only point of improvement that I vote for them to do is to put the privacy curtain on the bunk beds. Otherwise, EVERYTHING GREAT! I want to come back more often.

The hostel exceeded all my expectations. Well organized, very large, spacious rooms (I got one with four beds), cleaned daily. The bed could be a little more comfortable and the bathroom shower a little bigger. But that didn't take away from the experience, I really enjoyed it and if I return to Santiago I will certainly stay in the same place. Well located, you can walk to several tourist attractions. The service is wonderful, Gaston, Gustavo and Catalina are sensational. Always ready. I highly recommend the hostel, it made my trip to Santiago wonderful.
