We came back to this apartment after having been last year. We noticed that sadly the apartment has been neglected. The fittings were chipped, the the only fry pan was scratched by heavy use and the handle was loose, there was not a chopping board or a sharp knife to cut bread or vegetables, there was not can opener. The water glasses were heavily scratched by over use. The cafetiere was cheap plastic with flimsy lid. We noticed the flower pots outside reception were half dead and flooded in water, chairs in the terrace outside looked discarded and dirty. A general feel of neglect about the place. The cleaners changed bed linen and towel daily but the whole place needs investing in better kichen equipment, mattress, and fittings. The way is at the moment, is expensive and poor value for money.

All in all it was a decent hotel/apartment. Location was fantastic, 2 minutes from the beach and restaurants and bus stop. Super market around the corner. The room itself was not bad. Fairly spacious, ample cupboard and storage space, good kitchen amenities. However, the beds were uncomfortable, the pillows were not at all comfortable and there was no air con. This made staying in the room from around 2pm to 7pm unbearable. The bathroom was tiny and the shower cabin was very very narrow which left you no choice but to bump your arms and elbows in the cabin doors each time you shampooed your hair. Reception was friendly but not too helpful. Daily cleaning was good. Towels were soft. Breakfast was good for the price and the main waiter was Eagle to please. If it had aircon I would add a star. It needs a bit of TLC and some form of cooling as temperatures hit over 30 while we were there.

The hotel was lovely, and the gentleman on reception was polite and friendly. However there was no kettle in the room. A coffee maker was provided when we asked and it did the job. Unfortunately the issues came when we went down for dinner. The bar was freezing as was the restaurant. (The staff member serving us at the bar and the restaurant had her coat on!) When we went through for dinner we should have realised there would be issues as there was no one else in there. I ordered the fillet steak at €24. I asked for it to be well done. When it arrived, it was practically blue. After three attempts of sending it back it was still medium at best, so my husband ate it. I ordered a plate of chips (at €5.50) and they were so salty they were inedible. My daughter and I ordered Lemon Tart each (also at €5.50 each). When it arrived it was more of a flan than a tart. We chose not to eat them as we don’t like flan based desserts. Our bill came to €83.36 with an addition of 10% cuota €8.34 so it totalled €91.70. There was nothing to compensate for the inconvenience. When my husband went down to the bar at 22:45 it was closed. Apparently it closes at 10:30.

We have stayed at the hotel several times. It is clean and the rooms are spacious. It is so well located that it is very comfortable to move around. There is usually a place to park without problem in the area. we repeat for sure

We stayed four nights. The hotel has a very good location, very friendly staff and good cleaning. The beds are very comfortable, but the BREAKFAST should be improved, it is very unhealthy. Little fruit and too many pastries, there is no natural bread, because we asked for it and they did not have, although they offer toast but not natural bread. Breakfast would be a point to improve, otherwise highly recommended.

We have been traveling to Santander for many years, and for the last four we always go to Don Carlos. Surely there is something that could be improved in the facilities, but the staff is what always makes us decide on this hotel. Everything clean, comfortable, little by little the furniture is being renewed, five minutes from the beaches and the buses that take you to the center. María José, Roberto and Mar, who have always taken care of us in these wonderful years. For his kindness, always providing facilities and making the stay great. They are a great asset to Don Carlos even though they have changed owners. Without a doubt, we will return to Don Carlos when we go to Santander.
