Our room was very comfortable and the 4th floor location was great! The room was listed as a garden view, but from our lovely terrace, we definitely had partial ocean view! We loved having a terrace complete with a table, 2 chairs, two lounge chairs and a remote control awning, to make shade if needed! The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was nice. The front desk staff and the staff in the dining area were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choices were varied and good. We didn’t use the rooftop pool, lounge chairs, or hot tub but it looked fun. We also didn’t swim or access the private beach; the price of 50 Euros for 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella seemed a bit expensive. We were unsure if we could have gone there just to sit and have a drink without paying a fee. We should have asked. The location is about a 20 minute walk from the train station and there are no sidewalks for a small section as you get close to the hotel, so you have to change to the water side of the street and then cross back over. The city buses from the train station seem to always be very, very full so using the bus with any luggage would have been almost impossible.
Hotel Metropole

The Hotel metropole is in a good location just a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants and centre of Santa Margherita Ligure. The hotel has parking although it’s quite expensive what’s good is you don’t have to worry about parking you leave your keys with reception and they will sort it out for you. When we left the concierge brought the car to hotel front door for us which was a nice thing to do. The hotel has a lovely outdoor pool and you can also use the indoor pool, sauna and steam room in the spa you just need to book a slot. We were told the slot was for an hour but we weren’t hurried at all. The gardens are really well kept and look amazing. There is also a sunbathing area right on the sea with access to swim in the sea as well. Our room was really clean and well maintained and some traditional features had been kept which helped with character of the room. The room overlooked the pool and garden and had a spacious balcony to sit and admire the view. The hotel includes breakfast which was a good selection and kept well topped up and provided a good start to the day. The hotel has a nice restaurant although we didn’t eat there the menu had a good choice and there is a bar down by the sea which was nice for drinks. Santa Margherita is a lovely town with lots of shops and restaurants and you can get the ferry to Portofino and Rapallo. We walked to Portofino which took about 1hr walking slowly and has great views along the way.

We had booked a room with a balcony and a city room and walk in shower. On arrival we were shown a room on street level with no balcony and a barred window right on the road. On speaking with reception we were told not all rooms in this category had balconies and this was not guaranteed. We were shown 2 additional rooms and we paid an upgrade fee for a larger room with a window we could open. Unfortunately i did not inspect the bathroom as the shower was full of dirt and mould. The reception said she would tell the manager. Next morning i asked to speak with the General Manager who claimed the original room was the only room with a walkin shower which was not true as reception had already showed up 3 rooms with the required showers. On showing pictures of the shower he did acknowledge this was unacceptable however did nothing. The Manager did ask me to send him evidence of my issues however i did not do so as his attitude was so condescending and dismissive. Breakfast was good however again the cloths on the buffet had not been change for what appeared some time. This is a great location and hotel however be careful what you book is what you receive and check the room before accepting.
Hotel Laurin

We have just left this hotel after a 14 day holiday which was wonderful. The view over the busy harbour from our 3rd floor balcony was fantastic and so interesting. The balcony was small as was the room but you got used to these. We did look at a larger room with a terrace on the 1st floor but the view was not as good and the extra charge was quite high so decided our high view was better. The bathroom was a decent size and a good shower.Toiletries provided on arrival but not replenished.Shower gel was replaced. Our air conditioning was not working too good however this was fixed when reported.More hangers supplied for the wardrobe. We put our cases on top of the wardrobe which was dusty. The breakfast from 7.30 to 10.30 was very good and lots to choose from and sufficient for our needs. The staff in the breakfast room were pleasant and helpful. There is also a larger breakfast room for eg families. The front desk staff were very helpful at all times eg suggesting where to visit. One lady in particular was fantastic offering where to visit if you have been to the main attraction eg Rapallo funicular.I am sorry but I have forgotten your name.Staff also helpful signing for our case which was lost for 24 hours. The hotel is in the centre so near the ferry, shops, restaurants, train station and beach etc so never far from anything. The owners are Paola and Stefano who are charming. They chatted to us frequently asking if we were enjoying ourselves etc and suggesting places of interest. We ordered a bottle of rose wine for my husband's birthday which arrived with a tray of nibbles and on settling the bill we were told this was a gift and no charge.Paola also gave us a lovely gift to take on our next holiday which was very thoughtful. This is a family business as the owners two daughters also work in the breakfast room and they were lovely. We had a wonderful holiday and would recommend this hotel.

Charming hotel with an excellent staff. We stayed for one night, came to the hotel and checked in our rooms. One of the rooms had a broken a/c. The front desk told us to carry on with our day and go out like we wanted to and they will fix it. We wanted to go to the beach and asked for beach towels, we had no 5 euros on us for the security deposit and offered to pay in American dollars and they said it’s okay no need to pay but please bring them back and have us the towels and when they saw that we had no beach bag they gave us the towels on a beach bag. We came back to a different room because they couldn’t fix the ac in the first room. They sent a staff member to help us move our luggage. The second room had a broken ac as well so we told them on our way out and when we came back at the end of the night they told us to go check and if we need a new room we can leave our luggage in the room and just go sleep in a new room that has a good ac! They were very accommodating and eager to please. The breakfast was good. Loved the staff and how kind they were. We will be back God willing.
Hotel Continental

The location of the Hotel could not have been better. From our ocean view room on the first floor we had a full view of Santa Margerita, the port and the sea. Simply gorgeous!! The staff was amazing and very helpful in all matters. The rooms were well maintained and the balcony/porch was absolutely wonderful. I usually don’t eat breakfast however: I did every morning at the hotel because of the delicious breakfast and the amazing view from the restaurant terrace. Access to the sea for swimming and their private beach put it over the top. When I do return to the area again The Continental will be my first choice for lodging. Thank you all for making a memorable stay for us in Santa Margerita.
