Worst Hotel Experience Ever – Do Not Stay Here I had the absolute worst experience at this hotel. Upon arriving early, the staff showed me the room I was supposed to get, only to make me wait another 3 hours for it to be cleaned. Then, they tried to tell me they made a mistake and wanted to move me to another room. I spent 2 hours going back and forth with their staff (specifically Chris) before they finally resolved the issue. The next day, things got even worse. I received a letter from Joseph asking me to vacate the room I had paid for because they had a so-called "VIP guest" coming. They wanted me to move to another room, disrupting my vacation for another 3 hours. After arguing, they finally let me stay in the room, but the stress and inconvenience were beyond frustrating. At checkout, Chris tried to hit me with a R4,600 bill for breakfast, despite my reservation clearly stating that breakfast was included. When I disputed this, he suddenly claimed I owed more money for the room, which I had already paid in advance. Absolutely ridiculous. To top it off, their so-called outdoor jacuzzi is not heated, which makes it completely pointless. This hotel is disorganized, unprofessional, and a total waste of money. Save yourself the headache and stay somewhere else. I will never return.

Fantastic suite. Great service and value for money. Beats hotels as rooms with lounge, kitchen and easy access to Mandela Square and all the restaurants and entertainments, security excellent. Includes valet parking. Staff are pleasure Highly recommend

During our recent stay at the hotel, my expectations were unfortunately not met, largely due to what I found to be significant oversights and, at times, concerning behavior from some members of the hotel staff. As someone who has had the privilege of traveling to over 76 countries and has been a guest at numerous top-tier hotels worldwide, I believe I have a comprehensive understanding of the standards that one should anticipate from establishments that pride themselves on excellence in hospitality. The experiences that stood out during my stay were not in line with these standards. From the onset, the reception was less than warm. While I understand that everyone can have an off day, in the hospitality industry, it's paramount to ensure that guests feel welcomed and valued. Regrettably, this was not the impression I received. Further, there were several operational glitches that marred the experience. For instance, our room service orders were either delayed significantly or mixed up on more than one occasion. Additionally, basic amenities that one would expect to be replenished daily, such as toiletries and towels, were often overlooked. These might seem like minor issues in isolation, but when combined, they paint a picture of a system that is not functioning as seamlessly as it should be. Moreover, during our interactions with the hotel staff, there were instances where their behavior left a lot to be desired. Professionalism, in my opinion, extends beyond just performing one's job duties—it encompasses how one communicates, addresses concerns, and ensures that guests are having the best possible experience. On several occasions, when we raised concerns or made requests, the responses we received were either dismissive or lacked the necessary urgency. This was not only surprising but also disheartening, considering the reputation of the hotel. Furthermore, the general ambiance of the hotel did not resonate with the relaxing and refreshing experience one would expect. Whether it was the noise levels in the common areas, the upkeep of the facilities, or the lack of attention to detail in areas such as dining or leisure activities, the overall feel was that of a place that was not operating at its peak potential. Now, I do not write this review with the intention to disparage but to provide feedback that could be constructive. The foundation of the hospitality industry is built on the experiences and feedback of its patrons. While the physical aesthetics of a hotel play a role in its appeal, it's the intangibles—like service quality, staff behavior, and operational efficiency—that truly define a guest's stay. Given my extensive travels and experiences, I found the current state of affairs at this hotel to be notably different from the premier service I've grown accustomed to at other renowned establishments. I believe that potential guests should be aware of these issues, as they could impact the quality of their stay. Moreover, I sincerel

This hotel was an absolute disaster. Check in was good with front of house promising breakfast would be delivered to the suite at 6h00 as we had to leave at 6h30. At 6h10 the following morning the front of house had no idea of the order. It eventually arrived close to 6h30. The hotel indicates it has an on site restaurant. It does not. Breakfast is at the Da Vinci suites. The breakfast selection is that of a 3 star facility. A small buffet table. Cooked breakfast was shocking. A chef who presented a poached egg that looked like a fried egg and then tried to tell me he uses a poaching cup. What 5 star chef used a poaching cup and then the egg has the same thickness and look as a fried egg. Poached eggs are meant to be cooked in a bit of boiling water. Room was clean, well equipped but tired. The draws in the one bedroom cupboard could not stay closed on their own unless the cupboard door was closed. I was offered a move to the Michaelangelo Towers but opted to stay as this hotel has a lovely balcony. After I complained the staff were rude particularly at reception which is disappointing. I suggest that you give this hotel a skip and perhaps it’s sister properties too. If I was a director of this hotel group I would have a good look at the competence of my team and do some self reflection too. A dismal experience and nothing 5 star about it

You would think being in the heart of Sandton would be amazing. But we had not been able to rest after a long trip coming from London. The Hard Rock Cafe plays the loudest music until early hours of the morning. Than you get people shouting and singing loud on the square. When you call the reception and ask them what can be done, they took forever to answer the phone and said they can't do anything. I would not recommend this place if you want to have a peaceful sleep. On top of that, the hotel is old and tired. Not sure how they are still rated 5 stars.

Not great. Not 5 star. Amenities poor. Old TVs. Noisy. Staff not friendly. Not presentable or forthcoming. Old. Tired. Coffee in fridge was 11 months old. No Netflix or smart TVs. Beds not comfortable. No King or Queen beds. Aircon ok. Security system didn't work. No decor. Sheets were clean. Towels clean. Safe was working.

From 23:30, construction work starts in the Mandela Square, Sandton. It ends around 6:30 am, the next morning. Jackhammers fires away relentlessly, and workers throw rubble onto a truck, which eco’s through the whole square. . Workers shouting, to be heard over the digging of the jackhammers. We informed Reception on countless occasions, but alas, nobody would make the noise stop. Stay away from Raphael Penthouse Suites, should you require a good night’s rest. It won’t happen here.
