San Sebastián is a great place and Zenit Convento hotel is conveniently located, minutes away from the beach and old town. The facilities in the room are good and the decor neutral and modern. The room we were given (1st floor) looked out onto residential apartment blocks. When we checked in, we were not informed that noisy building work to these properties would be going on during our stay. (I attach views from our room) We did mention this to reception and they apologised. Had I known about either of these I would have requested a room facing away from this awful outlook. We chose Zenit Convento because it had the benefit of a rooftop pool. The pool was closed for the whole week of our stay. The notice stated they were carrying out tests. This too was discussed with reception and they said they were sorry but in fact it didn’t open until the end of June. I cannot find anywhere on their website where this is mentioned and we found this to be misleading and frustrating. Breakfast was a chaotic experience from the very first morning. The table we were given on our first day was missing cutlery and butter. Staff were often not around or too busy to respond to requests or rectify mistakes. I ordered an omelette but was given scrambled egg. I asked for this to be changed. They took it away and then came back with the same plate and told me this was an omelette. Trying to explain that it wasn’t to someone who spoke limited English was difficult. Subsequent days were similar, long waits to get table service, items missing from the table. It was only on day 3 that we realised that a menu in English was available. No one had bothered to offer this to us. As a consequence, despite already having paid to have breakfast included, we decided on our last 2 days to have breakfast in the Taberna Blas opposite the hotel. The evening opening times for the bar are not clear. Sometimes it would still be open beyond 11pm sometimes it would not. We came back to the hotel at 11pm one evening and there were people sitting in the bar with drinks but no staff behind the bar. There were 2 members of staff on reception. We asked them if we could order 2 coffees. They said sorry the bar is closed and the staff have gone home. What are the opening and closing times and why can’t they be consistent and displayed. When we checked in we had 2 bottles of water in our room. We assumed therefore that water was provided free of charge throughout our stay as it is in the gym. When we checked out I was surprised to find water had been charged to our bill. I raised this and was told that only the first 2 bottles are free. This again is misleading and inconsistent. We travel extensively in Europe and rarely are we charged for still water in our room. With a room rate of €400 per night it should be included as part of the room package. I did raise many of these issues with restaurant / reception during my stay. The response was generally that they were sorry but that was it. The ma

Great place to stay. Great rooms and wonderful service. The hotel is beautiful and the lobby is one of the prettiest I have seen. Have a glass or Txacoli at the bar and watch people coming to pray while you are at it. It is an experience I can tell. I will comeback.

Fab hotel in San Sebastián. Met as we pulled up outside in our hire car and parked for us. Very historic lobby and bar with great architecture as it was an old convent. Modern and comfortable rooms with good amenities and a view over the pretty street outside. Only two minutes from the beautiful seafront. Easy walk to heart of Old Town five minutes away and to the historic funicular. Lots of gorgeous restaurants and bars! Get some Pintxos! We went to Arzak restaurant which we had booked months earlier - three Michelin stars and a short taxi ride away. Amazing experience to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary with the friends we met on honeymoon.

Could not recommend more highly. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, we had a family room with two fold down bunk beds. Generous bathroom and all conveniences. Staff could not have been more helpful and nice. Andrea the concierge helped us with bikes and reservations. Thank You!

Please do not book to stay at this hotel. They have questionable morals and appalling customer service. I was booked to stay here in June 2024 with my friend Helen. Unfortunately, the day before we were due to travel I started experiencing pregnancy complications and ended up in a&e. My friend Helen contacted the hotel on my behalf to explain the situation, that I was in hospital, and that I'd been advised not to travel. Obviously, we were devastated that we wouldn’t be able to make the trip but obviously the fact I was experiencing worrying pregnancy complications was more concerning at that time. We appreciate hotels have a cancellation policy, however we were not asking for a refund, simply to be able to use the money we were paying as credit towards a stay another time in the year. As we thought we were dealing with a reputable hotel company, we expected a level of understanding and compassion considering the situation. My friend was met with a firm no and a highly unprofessional response, asking us to ‘see if we had other friends who could enjoy the stay’ and offering a 5% discount on future stays. We were utterly shocked by how poorly this was handled. To make things worse, and whilst we were still trying to navigate the highly upsetting situation, the hotel then promptly charged us for the entire amount for the stay, before we'd even have checked in, which added even more undue stress onto what was already a highly stressful situation. About 4 days later, I personally contacted the hotel, to see if they might have had a change of heart and asked to be put in contact with the manager of the hotel. As I was still having ongoing issues with my pregnancy and hospital visits, this wasn't something I wanted to be dealing with, but as this trip was a real treat for us, and a lot of money, their actions left me with little choice. I received absolutely no response from the hotel. I followed up 2 days later in the hope that someone might have the decency to respond or offer any kind words, and try and rectify the situation, but they once again ignored my email. I have honestly never dealt with a company with such a lack of morals or professionalism. Based on how they've acted so far, I assume the hotel may try to dispute my stay, as the booking was in my friends name, but I hope anyone reading this would query why I'd bother to write this were it not the truth...
