This was our second visit to this hotel. Since it is the only hotel in Sant Pol there is not much choice if you want to spend some days in this beautiful village on the coast. The location is nice, up on the hill, with all rooms facing the sea. It is also used as a training facility for the University of Girona for students studying hospitality. It is a 3 star hotel but could very easily be a 4 or 5 star but it needs some major updating. The whole place is stuck in the 70’s and 80’s. The décor, the cheap plastic lounge chairs at the pool, the bar area, the dark drab breakfast room, the lay-out of the rooms, cheap partitions between balconies…. and lots more! I think the one thing that needs addressing soon is the height of the railing on the balconies; it is very low and clearly below building codes and EU standard. An accident is waiting to happen!! As mentioned, this is a training facility for students but the older senior staff is not doing much to help and educate and should all be replaced to give room for younger and more enthusiastic educational staff . The feeling of the place is like “we don’t want any changes, it’s always been like this and works well for the staff” The room comes with breakfast, a modest one! Some of the items like scrambled eggs are not refilled unless you ask for it. The products like yogurt and marmalade are the cheapest ones available. I had requested gluten free bread in my booking and on the first day I got one roll, warm on the outside, frozen in the middle. Next day they only had sweet cakes. Rooms have no facilities to make coffee or tea. There is also a restaurant, a bright airy nice room with lots of light and a view. But, all tables are laid as if they are just going to serve a 9 course gourmet dinner any time. Never seen anyone eating there. A pity breakfast is in the drab old breakfast room next to it. This hotel needs a good shake up and lots of money invested in it to develop this into what it could be.
