Aloft Santa Clara

No frills but an all around pleasant stay during a family/business visit. The hotel has recently been refurbished and rooms are nice and well equiped. Staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel also offers excellent healthy breakfast options. Only gripe is the open bathroom layout which really is not my thing, especially when not traveling alone. There was a sliding door seperating the toilet/shower from the rest of the room but it offered little in terms of sound isolation. No reservations about recommending this hotel to fellow travelers and would stay here again as a solo traveler on a next trip to Santa Clara.

The room is clean and the surrounding facilities are complete. We happened to stay during the Christmas period. There was a light show on the stadium next to it. The festive atmosphere was strong and there were many people. Because the tickets were sold out, we could only watch it from the outside, which was a bit regretful.

Fortunately I only spent one night here. I was surprised by the lack of basic service and amenities: Before my arrival, I used the chat feature to ask about parking but never received a response. Upon arrival, the employee at the front desk was unfriendly and charged me for parking without my consent. I asked about parking, making clear I was trying to decide whether to park my car at the hotel or somewhere else. She told me it was $35 for in and out privileges, I asked how much it would cost to park directly in the lot (since I did not need to go in and out) and she said ”I think it's $22 but just bring me your ticket” in a pretty rude tone. I was taken aback by her tone so I did not continue to engage in the conversation and I did not respond confirming I wanted parking, expecting I would pay directly with the lot, and later learned she charged me $35 anyway, plus a $5 tax she did not mention. No acknowledgement of Marriott Gold status, no upgrade, no explanation. I don't know if I received a welcome gift. The air conditioning in my room was not working, and there was a comically large plastic fan next to the TV. When I arrived to my room at 10 PM it was 80 degrees, so the fan was useful but I feel like they should probably fix the air conditioning or at least warn the occupant that it's broken. I would not stay here again.
Residence Inn San Jose Campbell

Even during COVID-19 -- Marriott Residence Inn was a great stay! I always prefer to stay at Marriott Residence Inn when I travel -- because these rooms are ”mini condos” with bed, kitchen, living room, and laundromat. This stay was different -- I just wanted to have some quiet time from family during COVID-19. I'm on Weight Watchers -- so being able to bring + cook my own food worked for me when I didn't go out to eat. I was fortunate to get a room on the end -- so it was quiet which I liked. Usually this hotel room has plates, pots, pans, utensils -- all that you need in a kitchen -- but it was all taken out. I was glad to use my own plates, pans + utensils. Better safe. If I needed anything - hotel staff was just a phone call away. The hardest part was parking -- it was packed because we couldn't go anywhere during COVID-19 shutdown, even beaches were closed.

Soundproofing is very bad, very noisy at night 1. The sound of the air conditioner is very noisy, and I can hear the sound of the host next door. 2. If you close the door, there is no light hand, you can hear it here and you will be woken up at night.

Large rooms, very clean, location in the CBD is very expensive during the conference, this is what Silicon Valley looks like. Backstage computing power is strong, I know when the number of passengers will go up immediately, the off-season is said to be cost-effective
