My stay felt like visiting family. My family and I spent time just sitting and conversing with the owner and staff over coffee between visiting the volcano and hot springs, shopping, etc. I even got to assist in making a traditional Costa Rican breakfast for my family and other guests. Besides being immersed in nature at the hotel, the cooking lesson was a memorable experience. A return visit is already in the works.

Can’t say enough good things about our stay! We visited in a busy time of year and staying here you wouldn’t know it! The staff treats you like family and the grounds are an oasis! The food, rooms and service was perfect! Can’t wait to come back! Thank you Giovanni, Elizabeth and Luis (and Thor).

We have been to San Rafael Ecolodge five times. The gardens and greenery are fabulous, accompanied by the musical sounds of the rainforest. We are always treated like royalty by Giovanni and Luis. They have made many upgrades over the last few years, and each stay is more pleasant than the last one. You'd be hard pressed to find more congenial, exuberant hosts - they really do make you feel like family . The Hotel is walking distance to town for basic necessities, but if you let the hosts cook for you, you will not be disappointed. Muchas gracias to you both, and we will return!

It’s like coming home to family, Giovanni and Luis are the most amazing hosts, warm, welcoming, the whole place represents tranquility, downtime, beautiful surroundings and the best Margarita I have ever had made by Luis. I recommend this place whole heartedly to anyone. The lodges are great and all surrounded by dense foliage, amazing sounds as dusk settles. Thank you both for making our holiday so good. .

Staying at Villa San Rafael was an exquisite experience. Giovanni and Luis received us in a wonderfull way (even Thor in is doggy way participated) and helped us with all what we needed for an unforgattable vacation. Giovanni helped us to visit the nearby "el bosque eterno de los niños", a must when you are staying at the hotel, and also the eco-termales nea lor the Arenal Volcano. During this visits we saw more animals in wildlife condition then we saw in our whole life. Breakfast was included but even then really exquisite, and a wonderful way to begin the day. I hope I can repeat it with the rest of my family, and I can fully recommend it to anyone who travels to the beautiful lands of Costa Rica.

What a wonderful stay and experience. Giovanni and Luis made us feel like family. You can feel the love and thought in all the details of the landscape. Gio’s passion for nature was infectious. The property was cozy, peaceful and clean. The food was delicious and fresh. Many herbs and ingredients used to cook were from his property. We had such a great experience and can’t wait to go back!

Hospitality is a top priority here. All our wishes were immediately fulfilled by Giovanni and his staff, whether it was about eating or laundry. The apartment had everything it needed, everything was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The location is quiet, the garden beautiful and supermarkets are nearby. Me and my daughters would come back any time.

I have stayed in various hotels over the years in Costa Rica and this place is by far one of my favorite spots! The host was incredibly kind and the rooms were very clean with a great view off of the balcony. The food was also very delicious, Giovanni and Luis had offered some garbanzos with rice that had been locally sourced. While dining we had an amazing conversation with both. Really looking forward to staying here again in the future. Lovely stay!
