This hotel is next to the beach. It has a nice swimming pool. It also has places for sunbathing on the beach as well as a bar on the beach. The food is very good. The room is spacious enough, although the wifi was sketchy in the room. Staff are helpful and speak English. The area has many trees and is well maintained. Shower was good with hot water and good pressure.

We had a good, average stay at the hotel. The location is fantastic, right on a beautiful beach with plenty of lounge chairs, making it easy to relax by the sea. We enjoyed spending time in the ocean; it was very calming. The pool was also great. Our room was a small lodge, equipped with everything we needed, though it was a bit dark and the air conditioning was quite loud. The bed was comfortable. As for the food, it was okay but nothing exceptional, and the cocktails could have been better. The breakfast buffet was fine, with enough variety to start the day. The staff did their job but weren’t particularly welcoming or engaging. Overall, a decent stay with a great beach but room for improvement in service and dining.

Overall it’s pretty good! Advantages: The room is in the style of an African hut, has a balcony, is close to the beach, the swimming pool is large, and the people are very welcoming! Disadvantages: The price is really high, the beaches in Africa are really not comparable to those in Southeast Asia, the breakfast is very unfamiliar, and the TV only has French channels!

The resort is ok and access to the beach is close and easy unfortunately they’re the only highlights. The room we stayed in was small and pokey and the air conditioning was non existent. We mentioned both the lack of cold air coming out and the fact the unit was making more noise than a construction site and the response we got back was “well it’s doing best”. Needless to say sleep was impossible due to both the heat in the room (29 C) and the noise of the a/c. I won’t be back and would suggest others avoid as well

The hotel is perfectly situated on the beach, there were plenty of loungers and umbrellas available. The hotel staff - with the exception of Reception - were inattentive (bordering on rude) at meal times and at the bar on the beach. This may have been a language barrier issue as the French guests were greeted, seated and served very quickly. Breakfast was self service with plenty of choice with freshly cooked eggs and a friendly chef. Evening meal arrangements changed between al a carte to buffet in certain days which was a little odd as the a la carte meals were obviously prepared earlier and sat waiting to be served as the food was never served hot. The room was clean if a little tired, tea & coffee was replenished daily. The terrace was large but seemed unfinished with metal poles sticking out of the wall. Senegal is not an affluent country and I wasn't expecting luxury but the staff attitude left a lot to be desired and ruined our experience.
Response from Property: Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback with us. We appreciate your positive comments about our beachfront location and the availability of loungers and umbrellas. However, we sincerely apologize for the inconsistencies you experienced with our staff's attentiveness, especially during meal times and at the beach bar. Your observations are concerning and do not reflect the high standards of service we strive to provide. We regret any discomfort caused and will address this issue promptly with our team. Regarding the meal arrangements and temperature of food, we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the change from à la carte to buffet style. We will review our procedures to ensure that meals are served promptly and at the right temperature. We also appreciate your comments about the cleanliness of your room and the breakfast service. Your feedback regarding the unfinished terrace and the presence of metal poles is noted, and we will work to rectify these issues. Please accept our apologies once again for falling short of your expectations. We value your feedback as it helps us improve our services for all our guests. Should you decide to visit us again, we would welcome the opportunity to provide you with a more enjoyable experience. Warm regards, Delphine

I was hugely impressed with the Hotel Royam. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The food was delicious! On half board, there was plenty of choice for both breakfast and dinner. The pool and grounds were kept immaculate and the beach was beautiful. The staff at the beach bar were more than happy to bring our drinks to us on the beach. Lovely to drink cocktails at happy hour watching the sun set. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

I don’t recognise the previous reviewers experience to be of the same place that we stayed at. The hotel was immaculately kept. Beautiful grounds and beach. The room was perfectly okay. Maybe not five star but clean and comfortable. The staff were polite and attentive and there was never a problem with the service that we received. We spoke to the Manager on our last day to make him aware of how great the staff were. He must work really long hours as he always seemed to be around checking that everything was as it should be. As it was. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel .

Mid sized complex, arrived mid evening but few staff speak English so limited check in at reception. Full board option acceptable but nothing special, it alternates between buffet and three course menu in the evening. Cracked and chipped plates and cups makes for a poor dining experience - just replace them! The hotel is very geared towards French tourists and so not many waiters speak English. There is a rude Maitre d' who gladly swans about ignoring anyone who isn't greasing his palm. Beach bar service is very slow as is waiter service in the evening meal. This is typified by 15 minute waits to order drinks after sitting down. This is poor at the beach bar when 4 staff are waiting 6 tables when its not busy around 6pm, conversely at evening meal when 8 staff are serving 15 tables. The worst experience was at the beach bar, drinks are ordered and usually a receipt is signed for the bill to be put on the final room bill when drinks are brought. However after waiting and waiting we took empty glasses to the bar where staff were stood doing nothing. Later during evening meal a beach bar staff member interrupted us mid meal to sign the receipt nearly two hours later. I told him this was unacceptable to interrupt me eating so he passed the receipt to the restaurant barman. Then mid dessert the waiter brought me the aforementioned bill and evening drinks receipt to sign - MID MEAL again. Complaint in French to the staff resulted in the walking away. Then a clear complaint was made and received by reception who were apologetic and said it was unacceptable and I was told the Manager had left and would contact me the following day, he didn't and on following it up with reception the following day they said they had no answer. The Manager was more happy taking social media pictures than talking with anyone who wasn't French. Room is basic with threadbare and worn curtains and towels. Staff are a very mixed bag.

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks in February 2024 as part of a TUI trip. We really loved the hotel, in particular the traditional African look of the rooms, the beautiful garden grounds of the hotel leading straight to the beach, well stocked in beach chairs and umbrellas. The room was beautiful with a little terrace, built to stay cool in the heat. The AC was one of the quietest I have experienced. The pool, whilst not the largest, was more than sufficient and also surrounded by the lovely gardens and a very pleasant place to stay. It could do with a bit of renovation with tiles missing and a bit more thorough cleaning, and was very heavily chlorinated which was a put-off for swimming any length of time. I loved the food at the hotel with an extensive breakfast buffet, as well as generally fantastic dinners. Some days there were buffets and some days it was a set 3 course menu with 3 choices of starters, mains and desserts. I much preferred the buffets which were real events, particularly the seafood buffet (buffet de la mer) and the grand buffet. No drinks are provided at all with dinner so most people ordered payable bottles of water every day. There was a lot of choice of seafood including oysters, sea urchins, which I was quite impressed with. Dinner was generally accompanied by live music. During the set menu days it was sometimes hard to get served and very very slow at times, particularly on days when there were tables of large groups of (important?) people, and if you came a bit later than the 7.30 start of dinner. For us it was particularly slow on the first day when we arrived, a Monday, when I was also really hungry after the flight! Unfortunately after the second week's buffet on Wednesday I also suffered very severe food poisoning and was in bed the whole of Thursday with vomiting and diarrhea, I could not really eat for a few days, it was terrible. I do understand that these are things that happen in such hot weather despite all the precautions being taken by the hotel. There is a lovely beach bar by the hotel beach with a Saturday happy hour. I think it would have been lovely to have a daily happy hour. While the beach looks pleasant enough with palm trees and lovely chairs, several showers, the water feels absolutely freezing at about 22c when the air temperature reaches 39c some afternoons. The sea is the fridge! Basically the sea is too cold and the air. too hot. And it is not white sand nor turquoise, so kind of ok but that's it for the beach. The hotel has security guards at the beach so that guests do not get hassled by beach vendors, which really helps. Unfortunately they do not stop the people approaching you when you actually go in the water, which can still be a bit of an annoyance. Overall for the trip, the hotel was the best part, as we did not much enjoy the country of Senegal which had nothing to offer in the way of attractive sights. Prices for restaurants, trips and everything are sky high and completely ridi

Lovely individual round bungalows surrounded by pretty gardens, which are being looked after every day. Evening entertainment good. With lively bands, local traditions and relaxing music. Food lovely with plenty of choice. Staff extremely friendly, occasionally there was a language barrier but, they speak French I’m English and I don’t speak French. So I wouldn’t expect them to speak good English. Google Translate always helps. Beach bar great plus lovely beach. Enjoyed the sea and walking along the waters edge. Also walking to the local villages. Like lots of places you will be hassled. They are only trying to make a living, we did not come across any nasty locals. They are all very friendly.
