Excellent location and fortunately there is on site parking. The room had a lovely view of the river and cathedral and the room was dark and quiet. The parking area was full when we arrived due to possibly a lengthy Christmas lunch. However, we did Manage to park in a non marked area which the receptionist said was okay. The staff were efficient if not overly friendly although two were brilliant. The beds, though, were terrible. So soft and lumpy that a good nights sleep was impossible. We did not ask to be moved as it was only a one night visit and I think that had we approached the management we would have been given another room. We had dinner there and although what we had was lovely, I do think that they have taken advantage of a captured audience. Probably overpriced by about £10 to £15. Also be prepared to wait. They do let you know that they have a limited kitchen staff though so we were expecting a bit of a delay. Breakfast was lovely. All buffet based and all the components of a full English were available. Too late I saw the note on the table that said that you could ask for poached or fried eggs.

We went to Salisbury with two other couples from 30 Nov to 2 Dec and stayed here. What an absolutely lovely place to stay. We found the place very easily and the car park is quite big behind the very old traditional and historic building. The hotel is right next to the Avon river and is in a truly tranquil setting with views over to Salisbury Cathedral. Check in was really fast and efficient. We had booked up on a B&B basis and really cannot fault our rooms 16, 17 & 18. Breakfast was also excellent but be aware it does get very busy and sometimes items will run out but patients is required as staff will replenish as quick as they can. The staff we found were simply superb and really very friendly and I would like to highlight two in particular the really lovely, efficient, friendly and enthusiastic Maisy. She was areal character and such great fun and we all loved our time with her. The other young lady who was also very efficient and extremely knowledgeable and friendly was Abbie. When we next come down to Salisbury we would certainly stay here again and would highly recommend this place. We just loved the small room with the open fire which was just delightful and so oldie wordle and quirky. Certainly give this place a visit and if you do in the spring/summer you can sit on the patio area next to the river Avon and enjoy the views and atmosphere. It is also very close to Salisbury town centre and will take you approx. 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel which will take you through the grounds of Salisbury Cathedral.

Mr Quirke was at reception dealing with someone who was clearly unhappy about something but his manner to me seemed condescending and I felt annoyance on behalf of Mr Quirke who was being very gracious and did not flinch in the least. I rang him from my room later to express my solidarity and turns out I had missed dinner time in the town and also at the hotel. Mr Quirke kindly pleaded with the chef who agreed to make me a sandwich and personally brought it across for me. I was so touched by his gesture of kindness . He has lived in over a dozen countries in the world and the Rose and Crown are extremely lucky to have someone so customer aware as part of their team. Thank you for your kindness Mr Quirke!

Having read mixed reviews, was a little wary, but that soon disappeared. Staff in reception were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. Had a garden room which was very spacious, a very comfy large bed and had a wonderful view.. had our own table and chairs on a little patio overlooking the bank down to the river... and a view of the Cathedral Spire. Food for all meals were good, as were serving staff. Everywhere was clean...a little dated in places. The only downside was the brown swirly carpet that definitely needs replacing...very reminiscent of the 70s. Excellent location with a pleasant walk to the Cathedral and town and lots of interesting places to visit. Made a very pleasant few days away.

Afternoon tea Booked a month in advance with 21 friends . A retirement party. Small Pots of tea arrived on the table and the sandwiches arrived twenty minutes later. No offer of fresh tea throughout the afternoon. Although sandwiches fairly tasty - the selection was not spread across the two tables. So we had to swop sandwiches around. A selection of beige tasteless cakes with scones and economy strawberry jam ( don't think it had ever seen a strawberry) double cream not clotted cream. Had to ask for butter. £12.00 for a large glass of wine !!!!!! A very disappointing experience.

I wish we could have stayed longer at the Rose & Crown. From what little we saw it looked fascinating. The wife and I both enjoyed an excellent lunch at a riverside table. You can if you wish hire a punt to take you up this beautiful river but you need to be fairly agile. Would recommend it, a very enjoyable place to stay, eat, or just have a drink

I would have liked to have marked it a 5 but because of the shabbiness of the room and some common areas it has to be a 4. It’s in dire need of a refurbished and money spent on it. Get rid of the bath, save money with showers or wet rooms, then even people with mobility problems can use them without worrying about how to get into the bath to shower. The room (12) smelt a bit funny, damp or something, never found out what. We stayed last year and nothing had changed. The meals were good although the breakfast on the first morning had run out of things and tables were left unmade for next guests. I hope to return next year only if it’s been upgraded.

My wife and I visited for lunch and we were grateful to receive excellent service from the staff, they were professional and polite. The food was excellent, we will definitely return when next in the area.
