We visited The Lamb in Hindon over the weekend and had booked a table with friends. On arrival, we were greeted by a friendly member of staff. As the weather was beautiful, we asked if we could sit outside for dinner, which was no problem. However, we were surprised to be handed menus and told to head to the bar to place and pay for our order when we were ready. It felt a bit impersonal, I’m not sure why we couldn’t have been seated properly, offered drinks, and looked after in a more traditional way. While the staff were pleasant, the overall service felt quite minimal, especially considering you’re dining somewhere where you’d expect a bit more hospitality. The food itself was decent but fairly simple. I had the Whole Plaice with Samphire, the fish was fine, though the samphire was unfortunately quite soggy. That said, the prices were reasonable, and notably cheaper than many other places in the area. All in all, it was an okay experience, we were fairly satisfied, but it’s not somewhere I’d be in a hurry to return to.
