Worst Hotel Ever – Stay Away This was hands down the worst hotel experience I've ever had. It's amazing how the hotel has deteriorated since the last time we stayed there. Zero management: The place is run by a group of young, inexperienced staff sometimes doing what they can — but without any guidance or leadership. The result? Poor service, disorganization, and even a shockingly arrogant attitude. The food is inedible: Literally. Almost every review mentions it, and we experienced it firsthand. Guests openly complained during meals, but the hotel clearly doesn’t care. It’s baffling that they continue to serve food this bad. The spa is a disgrace: Run down, outdated, and borderline disgusting. After a day of skiing, it should be a place to unwind — instead, it’s a major letdown. Housekeeping is a joke: You have to beg to get your room cleaned, and apparently they allow themselves to clean until 16:30. That means after skiing, you might return to a dirty room with no fresh towels. When they do clean, it’s rushed and superficial. Unsafe shuttles: Because the food is so awful, we had no choice but to shuttle into town to eat. The hotel provides shuttles, but their young drivers speed through curves while staring at their phones. When we pointed it out, they just ignored us and got angry.. To make matters worse, we attempted to speak with the manager—an experience that somehow made things even more infuriating. She clearly has no interest in guest satisfaction and behaves as though she actively dislikes the people staying at the hotel. After we voiced our concerns, she completely avoided us, hiding from any interaction. When we did cross paths, she blatantly ignored us, as if punishing us for daring to complain. Her attitude was cold, dismissive, and shockingly unprofessional—exactly the kind of behavior you’d expect not to find in a luxury hotel. No accountability: The hotel refuses to accept any kind of feedback or complaints. They’re more than happy to take your (significant) money, but their treatment of guests is dismissive, even humiliating. Altapura ownership, wake up! We do have other options — and next time, we’ll be taking one of them.

Amazing staff who couldn't be faulted in any way whatsoever Great interiors and style, modern spa vibe Wonderful breakfast excellet quality and choice Truly ski in ski out Loved the ski hire on site and the ski locker room which was practically on the slopes Room was a bit of a squeeze Dinner was good every night but not amazing. Good to be able to dine in all 3 restaurants on half board option Spa facilities all very good but not luxurious Room VERY hot at night in spite of turning down a/c to 10 Celsius (staff should have told us when calling down to reception to figure out a/c that it could have been turned off altogether centrally) as it clearly didn't work properly and we slept badly every night Other than that we had a great stay

Only arrived today but wanted to post this in case it could help some due to arrive that may wish to reconsider. So far the experience has been underwhelming despite the aesthetic appeal of the building and facilities. The room is only a Club room but sold as Mountain Views. I am not sure room 309 counts as the view is squeezed between protruding sides of the building. I asked to move and despite having 50 room changes due tomorrow (according to the ski shop) they said only option was a worse view away from the mountains and two floors down. They don’t care. The room is also unbearably warm and the air conditioning must be set centrally as despite being on lowest and maximum the room is too warm to sleep. We have tried the Italian (lunch) and Asian (dinner) restaurants so far. The Italian was average at best and the Asian bordered on inedible in terms of the Tuna in orange sauce and the bok Choi, with the other dishes remarkably average. The other surprise was ordering Ruinart champagne and being asked if ok to drink from wine glasses as they had run out of champagne glasses. Then they found some glasses but the champagne arrived at room temperature! A change to white wine didn’t help much as that arrived warm. The bus shuttle took 25 minutes to arrive to collect from the centre and it seems they only operate one bus. It’s quite a wait in minus 7 and the hotel is on the extremity of the village so an efficient shuttle is essential. Only positive so far has been the service at the ski shop for the rental equipment which was excellent.

We stayed at Altapura over New Year 24/25. The main thing to point out is the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. Each team member was excellent. They create a warm and friendly atmosphere, where you feel like you are at home. The effort they all put in to your comfort is outstanding. The rooms are well laid out, however there's not a great deal of room for bulky luggage. The spa is fantastic and a welcomed treat after a long day of skiing. The position of the hotel is great. Whilst is is ski in/ski out, you are able to walk into town and when skiing, it is placed near the bottom of the slopes, near many different lifts. If is also excellent for families as it's located close to the beginner/nursery slopes. I would definitely recommend this hotel to the discerning traveller and families alike.

If you want a good nights sleep don't stay here ! In the rooms split over 2 floors there is no way of altering the room temp which meant upstairs was constantly overly hot and stuffy resulting in a terrible nights sleep and downstairs fine as temp controlled by an open / closed window. Complaining made no difference although they claimed they could turn the temp down. I left the hotel exhausted through lack of sleep and still ill for the first time in 10 years ! BTW they also try and slug you with an extra 4% on top of the bill as a tip for the staff who are clearly underpaid. Worst hotel I can recall staying in and I'm used to some pretty cheap ones which of course this isn't.

Not a 5 star hotel. The food is the worst I have ever eaten. This was mentioned by Suzanne E in January 24 and I can confirm this. Food is served on cold plates no hot plates. A buffet section where baked beans for breakfast are cold, sausages are white and inedible. Bacon cold and if you want a fried egg the chef has too cook it for you and served up lukewarm. The evening meal is buffet but always cold. The choices are truly shocking the only thing that is nice is bread as they cannot make that. Seriously don’t eat here my 2 friends in party of 11 which cost close to £25k on a package deal with Inghams went down with food poisoning due to eating oysters at the hotel. No doctor on site so friends had to stay in their room for 2 days. Truly shocking and ruined our holiday. Asked for a twin bed and was given a double bed. Window in the room wasn’t closed properly and couldn’t get it fixed till next day.

Having had the best review from friends some 12 years ago, saying how amazing it was, and that we should all stay here, one of our group managed to secure a group half biard booking for us all to go, costing £25k there abouts. The hotel, not a 5* for so many reasons, its in need of some tlc on decor, restaurant was very basic, food limited, almost every night cold, tepid, with cold plates, but dessert plates warm. One night we had chicken and chips no better than cheap basket food, £5 you'd pay the most for it. The kitchen staff changed every sitting and every day, no one consistent in the kitchen. Two friends had food poisoning, they were the only ones to have oysters. Me and two ithers had plastic in our soup, seemed to have been added to the blender. Drinks tarrif varied in the bar, I paid three different prices for the same gin and tonic ranging from 21 euros to 17 euros. A number of staff in the bar and restaurant were rude, impersonal and seemed poorly trained in hospitality. On dealing with mistakes language issues seemed to be blamed. Our room was ok, clean towels daily, but cups etc went missing and had to be asked for. Hotel felt tired, and the staff too, I'll equipped to manage tasks. For a miserable culture to develop it seems that this is from the top and filtered down. The only nice thong was the hotel ski shop, who helped me with my skis. The spa had lots of children in it and parents didn't seem to take notice of the times kids could be in the spa. Although ordinarily I wouldn't mind so much, but it wasn't managed by the hotel staff. I've skied Val Thorens before, it's beautiful, I'd never stay at this hotel, nor any hotels associated to it, seems like its been ruined since it became a chain, sadly. Too expensive, badly run, tired, and not up to a 5* standard they've labled it as.

Nice hotel but it’s very hard to question the logic of a 5-star hotel with fabric shower curtains. We arrived to a very smelly room thanks to a damp shower curtain which I had to manually remove to remedy the bad odour. I cannot fathom the logic of using a shower curtain that will get wet and smell. Another bizarre issue is the location of solid metal light fittings placed immediately above the breakfast tables. As a result of these low hanging bulbs, my wife and I both got smacked in the face on numerous occasions as these fittings are located at face height above the breakfast seating area. These are heavy items, and we were both hurt on several occasions as you forget their location whilst dining until raising from the breakfast area. The swimming pool is also not child friendly. We arrived at 5pm with our 3 hound children (aged 1, 3 & 5) as we previously noticed a signpost saying that it was adults only from 6pm-8pm which was fair enough. After a few minutes in the pool, the receptionist walked over to advise the pool was a “quiet area”. We immediately felt unwelcome and decided to leave. I would like to understand why the hotel feels it’s necessary to ask young children to be quiet in a swimming pool and if this is a realistic expectation? The hotel is in a great location and finished to a very high standard, a few simple changes would make the hotel so much more comforatable for it's guests.
