L'Auberge du Presbytere

This was one of my finest hotel expeiences in my memory, going back a long way. The hotel is situated right on a most beautiful and ineffably peaceful square in a really charming little Provençal village. Bit by bit the peace, charm and quietude of the this square seeped into us, and settled our thoughts. The same peace-effect happened in our spacious, beautiful toom on the top floor of the buiding, with the bonus of the huge sky seen above us from the little balcony there. The area is one of the best in France for being able to see all possible stars in the night sky. A certain, busy, effectrive, kind and conscientious lady there called Marriane and her generous boss looked after us brilliantly. Enjoy the exquisite square and ask to see if a top floor room is perhaps available. ------------- Ce fut l'une des plus belles expériences hôtelières de ma mémoire, qui remonte à très longtemps. L'hôtel est situé sur une très belle et ineffable place dans un charmant petit village provençal. Petit à petit, la paix, le charme et la tranquillité de cette place se sont infiltrés en nous, et ont installé nos pensées. Le même effet de paix s'est produit dans notre chambre spacieuse et magnifique au dernier étage de l'immeuble, avec en prime le ciel immense que l'on voit au-dessus de nous depuis le petit balcon. La région est l'une des meilleures de France pour voir toutes les étoiles possibles dans le ciel nocturne. Une certaine Marriane, une dame très active, pleine d'effet, gentille et consciencieuse, et son généreux patron se sont occupés de nous avec brio. Profitez de la place exquise Demandez à voir si une chambre au dernier étage est peut-être disponible.

Stopped for a short stroll and something to eat on the pittoresq village of Saignon. The terrasse at Auberge de Presbytere looked inviting and idyllic with shade from the trees. An sign invited guests to sit down and enjoy the sourroundings, and the slow pace. And ironically recommended the ‘fastfood’ in Gargas 10 km away If you were im a hurry. We sat down and enjoyed the pace. But not the food. For that the fastfood probably would have been better. A salad completely drowned in vinaigrette, a Bruschetta that was dry and completely ‘industriell food’. Would have been better not to ate anything at all. My advice is: enjoy the sourroundings, avoid the food!
