Che Beach House

Rusila|6.19km from city centre
Situated between Marang and Kuala Terangganu on the east coast of Malaysia, Che Beach House was an unequaled gem of a place for us in the uncertainty of the covid-19 shutdowns worldwide. The hosts could not do enough for us to keep us safe and informed of developments, particularly in Malaysia. Che Beach House is a small guesthouse with a small number of rooms, placed directly on the top of the beach. It is relatively new. We were allocated a nicely decorated queen-bed airconditioned room, which was on the lower floor. It was exceptionally clean and the bed comfortable. The room had a wardrobe and towel airing rack. There was no television. There is no breakfast available, but we had full use of the small kitchen. No cooktop, but there was a full-sized refrigerator with freezer, toaster, electric kettle and microwave. There was unlimited hot and cold filtered water available from a free standing dispenser. There was a Treleaf supermarket within walking distance to buy any needed groceries. Outdoors, there was a covered area for us to park our hire car so it was off the street at night. Two outdoor sitting areas, one part of the building itself and a pergola with chairs coffee table and hammock directly on the top of the beach. A perfect place to sit with a cup of coffee or tea and catch the sea breeze. Chris removes garbage from their stretch of beach nearly daily. It seems to be washed in on the tide. Neighbours played with children in the afternoon, but other than that I never saw anyone else on the beach. It was windy when we were there, so though the sea was clean, clear and enticing to look at, we deemed it too rough to swim. The sand is course and golden. Still pleasant to walk on for an early morning or late afternoon stroll. We would especially like to thank the hosts for a very pleasant, quiet and relaxing stay. Chris, thank you so much for the kindness shown and advice given when it became obvious we would have to return to Australia. We fully intend to return when all the covid-19 madness is over and continue our journey through Malaysia.

OYO 89887 Chalet Yunie

Rusila|4.58km from city centre
We were looking for an economical quick holiday at Pulau Kapas before the exodus of the mid term school holidays. Found this little establishment through an online booking site that had quite fair reviews from their previous customers. Noting that it is within the OYO stable, boosted our confidence to make the booking. The reasonable price on offer for our two nights stay was also the deciding factor to us choosing this chalet. Finding the chalet was not too hard, thanks to WAZE. We had a pleasant drive from Kuala Lumpur and upon entering the Marang Town, it didn't take us long to find the chalet. It is not clearly located by the main road, but it is clearly marked and sign posted. Driving into the compound, it reminded us of the American motels where you can park your car right at the doorway of the semi detached chalets. Checking in through what seemed to be a make shift reception (which in my opinion, could have been made a little more welcoming then to look like someone's incomplete alfresco living room. No computer check ins, just the plain old register book. Old school! Oh, and mind you, they don't have credit card facilities here, so payments are either in cash or direct local bank online transfers. The chalet we were assigned to was sufficient. It had a small patio with a sitting for 2, a tv with only local channels, air conditioning, and an en-suite bathroom. The basics. You can tell that the chalet is muslim-friendly as they have a rack of prayer mats in the room and I believe there is a musollah or mosque located just behind the chalet area. There is a very small outdoor kiddy pool within the facility, but its more like a dipping pool than for swimming. Overall, Yunie Chalet in my opinion served its purpose well. After-all, we were not planning to spend our whole stay within the chalet as our main purpose was to spend the day on Kapas Island, whereby the jetty is less than 10 minutes away. And within the vicinity of the chalets there are plenty of restaurants, a few beaches to visit and the it is located between the small town of Marang, and a 20 minute drive to the bigger city and capital, Kuala Terengganu. Highly recommended and also good for a big family trip as the rates per chalet per night is quite reasonable at less than RM100 per room per night.

Che Beach House
4.3/59 Reviews
3.9/57 Reviews
