We went to eat in the restaurant and had made a reservation because the website specifically advertised Thuringian beef roulade. We were seated by a waitress who was not very friendly. When we asked about a drinks menu, only a wine list was mentioned. There was no roulade on the menu. When we asked about it, we were told that there had been a long wedding celebration the day before and that we could therefore not expect a roulade. When we objected to the website, we specifically asked the manager, who doubted this fact and we had to prove the statement by cell phone. Then we were suddenly told that roulade was only available on request. The food we ordered - goulash with dumplings, solyanka and sauerbraten with Bohemian "dumplings" - was OK, the dumplings were a dry imposition that looked and tasted almost like a ready-made product. Conclusion: Never again. The local waitress is an unfriendly person, the Asian waitresses are friendly to the point of being servile and give the impression of being "subordinates" of the management. Hiding the miniature toilet behind a screen in the guest room is also a shame for an otherwise very nice location.

We always eat at the Marienturm when we are in Rudolstadt. In my opinion, there is nothing comparable if you are looking for good food and excellent service. The mix of classic Thuringian dishes and varied alternative dishes is what makes it special. Small and manageable menu where everyone will find something.

Spending a few days in this idyllic setting was a real luxury! Fresh breakfast (everything to please the palate), breathtaking views, and the room really lacked nothing. I look back fondly on the time I spent in this hotel!

Nice hotel located on a hill next to the Marienturm. Beautiful view over Rudolstadt and the Saale valley. The hotel has a good restaurant with terrace. Tip: booking a table with a view over the valley is recommended. Decent breakfast buffet as you would expect in Germany. Spacious rooms, unfortunately no air conditioning. Sufficient (free) parking on site.

The positives first. Magnificent view. Great flower baskets around the restaurant. When we arrived we asked if they served outside and they answered kindly (yes). When the waiter came we were immediately given a brusque and unfriendly...that's not possible as the food gets cold outside, it's too cold for October. After a short argument the menu finally arrived! The food was great twice and OK once. Napkins self-explanatory for ☆☆☆☆ I had to slow my mother down, she was about to say something. From the moment we were served the tone of the waiter became friendlier. In summary, we won't be going there a second time.

The hotel is located on a hill and you have a fantastic view of the castle and the city. The room and bathroom are modern and functional. But for 4* you should be able to expect air conditioning. Carpeting, like here, is a no-go these days. For hygiene reasons alone. The breakfast room is above the restaurant under the roof. It is furnished in modern wood but is inaccessible to people with walking difficulties or wheelchairs. There is no elevator for these people. The service in the catering area is unacceptable. You need a lot of patience for the waiter to arrive and even more patience for the food to arrive. Waiting time for a cappuccino is 15 minutes and for cake 30 minutes. The price/performance ratio of the menu does not match the quality and is in the segment of a star restaurant, which it is not. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this hotel.

After a hike on May 15th, 2022, we wanted to have something cold to drink on the restaurant terrace at around 3 p.m. Since there was no drinks menu on the table, I asked the waitress for a menu. She replied condescendingly and snippily that she could answer all my questions verbally. When I insisted on the menu, she simply turned around and walked away. What kind of style is that? Leider mussten wir sofort wieder abreisen, obwohl wir eigentlich das Restaurant besuchen wollten. Kaum ausgestiegen, verbellte uns ein großer freilaufender Hund. Meine Tochter fürchtet sich vor Hunden und hat sich schlimm erschrocken. Weit und breit war niemand zu sehen. Wir flüchteten wieder ins Auto, als irgendwann eine "Dame" aus einer Tür schaute. Als ich ihr zurief, ob das ihr Hund sei, nickte sie und als ich fragte, ob man den Hund nicht an die Leine nehmen oder zumindest drauf aufpassen könnte, brüllte sie uns an, dass der Hund hier wohne und wir uns auf seinem privaten Grundstück befänden, da müsse er gar keine Leine tragen. Weder Hund noch Frauchen geben Gästen das Gefühl willkommen zu sein. Dann lassen wir unser Geld lieber woanders. Das Grundstück ist nicht mit Warnschildern "Vorsicht, freilaufender Hund" gekennzeichnet.
