Château Lardier

Very beautiful, quiet green place, in the middle of the vineyards. We were among the guests at a wedding & slept in the gîte. The hosts were very accommodating and we were quickly won over by the charm of the place, the ivy on the facades and the magnificent stone reception room. There were 180 of us seated & the room was full. We were able to have a beautiful secular ceremony on the lawn under the large cedar tree. It was obvious for the future bride and groom and their families to reserve the lodging, the tower and the small house for the bride and groom; for reasons of convenience & proximity. So we quickly let ourselves be tempted by such a proposition. The bride and groom's little house is adorable, well equipped & decorated; but avoid looking at all the cobwebs! (not recent...) As for the cottage with a very beautiful exterior appearance, all stone interior with beautiful volumes, we must admit, we are quickly under the spell during our visit. (before becoming disillusioned…) The lawn, the terrace & the swimming pool enhance this beautiful ensemble. Unfortunately appearance does not always reflect reality! Let me explain, in the dormitory for 9 individual beds, the tiled framework is not insulated, with no opening for ventilation, making it very difficult to sleep in temperatures over 35 degrees. We had to rent 2 large fans to be able to fit in there. When we arrived at several beds, there were small piles of sawdust that had fallen from the framework, certainly eaten up by some critters?! Including even a piece of batten found on the ground, also fallen from the frame... Some bathrooms are in very poor condition, broken ceiling, stuck drain, moldy joints... The kitchen oven and the barbecue were dirty; the joinery not very clean & above all also a lot of cobwebs everywhere! We also had a visit from 2 charming little mice in a bathroom & in the tower bedroom. We know, Mr. Owner (as you have already written in a previous review), that we are in the countryside. We also live in the countryside, but to avoid this same answer, understand that any rental must be EFFICIENT & VISIBLE in terms of cleanliness!!! Despite these inconveniences which the other guests did not have the opportunity to suffer from, we had an excellent weekend. Not everything was negative though! I simply want to appeal to the hosts of the place: "consider investing the profit from the rentals, on a minimum of renovation & more vigilance on cleanliness, so the price will only be justified...!!!" Especially when a few days before, you are informed of a supplement of €300 for cleaning, not mentioned on the estimate… Kind regards C.SS
