La Villa

It’s with regret I write this review as the staff were lovely but I think it’s important to leave honest feedback. We were initially given a huge room on the first floor reached by a stair case next to the bar area in the main building. We usually stay in 5 or 6 star hotels but would have happily stayed in this property is it hadn’t been for the: Broken toilet in the ensuite - seat broken and sliding off plus very weak flush that just didnt seem to do the trick and empty the bowl no matter how much you held down the button Tap not working (no water) and a big crack in the en-suite bathroom basin General dirt in the bathroom inc a grubby bath, filthy grout, dirty accessories No shower, just a hand held shower attachment on the bath without a wall fixture Stains on the day bed covers Dirty light switches with uncovered (insulated) electrical wires showing Gloomy dark room with dim lights unless you opened the outside shutters which meant a lot of road noise A musty smell We asked if there were other rooms but nothing we were shown was much better. We opted temporarily for a smaller but brighter lighter annex room on the ground floor next to the pool with a shower but then found brown (looked like incontinence or blood stains) all over the mattress topper of the bed and the en-suite bathroom was quite grubby and smelled of urine. We’ve stayed in other heritage hotels before including Le Relais de Cchlong a few days earlier and understand vintage can show time worn charm but all the things dirty and broken were not original fixtures or fitting or part of the vintage decor. Our tour operator moved us to a different hotel so we didn’t have to stay more than a couple of hours.

Lovely old survivor from a different era. We have an enormous room with great antique furniture and beautiful tile floors. We spent four nights at a five star resort just prior to this, so there needed to be a mental adjustment, but now we’ve been here three days and we really like it. The only serious drawback is very antiquated bathroom facilities. But the staff is terrific, the room is immaculate, and the location is really good. We definitely recommend it.

If you enjoy heritage hotels, I think you can safely ignore some of La Villa's more negative reviews. I've stayed in lots of them and, despite a few quirks, this one is an excellent example of its kind. Room: we were bowled over by our Superior Double Room. It was huge, with high ceilings, colonial decor and scads of charm. The bed was spacious and comfortable, and there was ample storage space and electrical outlets. I easily forgave some of the less desirable features: Wi-Fi was slow at times, the door key could be hard to navigate and the claw foot bathtub was awkward to shower in. Staff: every staff member we encountered was cheerful, professional and helpful, and someone was available at all times. As an English speaker, language was never a barrier. Food: the breakfast was fine, with a predictable but satisfying selection of Western and Asian options. The coffee could have been improved.  Location: I really enjoyed the neighborhood, which was lively and offered a great selection of dining options, as well as the opportunity to walk along the riverside. Some reviews complain about noise from nearby bars: I heard the music but was never really bothered by it; I never even bothered to use my earplugs. In short, the place is old and scruffy and has a few quirks, but its old world charm and delightful staff more than compensate for them.

Out of all the places I have stayed in the world, this is my absolute favorite. It is absolutely stunning. I fell in love with the beautiful architecture. The rooms are magnificent. The pool area is so beautiful and relaxing. The food is divine, and the service staff are truly magnificent. There is history all around you, you can spend hours looking at the architecture and artwork on the walls. Nothing is too difficult for the staff and the location in Battambang is perfect. It is a lovely walk along the river across into the shopping precinct. It was such a sublime experience staying here.

This was a little oasis in Battambang. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. We had a couple meals here as well as breakfast. Everything was delicious! The pool was refreshing after a day of sightseeing. The hotel can arrange transfers and tours for you.

We had such a lovely time at this beautiful colonial villa in Battambang. The villa is stunning, the rooms were massive and luxurious, we loved the history of the building and all the quirky details. The pool was an absolute dream after a hot day touring, we spent a lot of time soaking in there and enjoying the lush green grounds. The breakfast was a set menu with choices and was so delicious (omelettes were amazing). The staff were lovely and attentive. A great start to our two weeks in Cambodia.
