Such a huge disappointment. Went to opening night, when new owners took over, was impressed with great food, atmosphere , great event! Visited a few weeks ago with our grandson-no other customers, food ok Visited lunch time, yesterday, no one else in No 'real' chips, so settled for fries! Half an hour later, young man told me -someone was popping out to get frozen fries They had been let down by suppliers! Some orders were wrong. Meals that had been on menu, as 'wraps with pitta bread, came with flat bread! Salad bar-very sp****!! Come on GW, we love the venue- but sadly won't be visiting again-unanimous agreement, between my sisters and our cousins, meeting up for our muchlooked forward to' Cousins get together!

This was the second visit to George Wright restaurant, the first was a few years back and wasn’t the best but I gave the benefit of the doubt as they’d not long been open, this time was inexcusable. We booked for my father’s 84th birthday for Sunday lunch, we were seated downstairs on a long table which was the best part of the afternoon. The chairs were unstable and you got the feeling they could collapse at any moment and the whole building was freezing cold, I even asked for the heating to be turned up and was told it was on full! On to the food, I found it over priced and pre prepared bought in / frozen catering food. I had goats cheese and red onion which tasted as if they were frozen packet bought, my main was roast beef - the meat was tough the Yorkshire pudding was greasy and not well made (although at least made in house), the best part was the veg which again I think was bought in ready prepared. My daughter had pork which she left most of as it was not nice, same veg. My parents had a bottle of Pinot which was un-drinkable and over 3/4 of the bottle was left. I complained to the waiter about the temperature and was told there’s nothing he could do as it was a grade 2 listed building, not a great answer really- maybe turn the heating on earlier! I complained about the food and wine and was met with well what do you want me to do about it! Total bill for 11 people was about £350 and I can honestly say it wasn’t worth £35, in my mothers words it was disgusting and we will not be returning.

Booked 3 rooms for the evening the venue has some appeal and staff are friendly. The rooms are basic but tidy the hotel was quite and they the restaurant wasn't open also the chef didn't turn up the following day for breakfast that we had paid for. We was refunded the difference. It did a job but could do much better but these are hard times so be grateful they are still open.

Cancelled my booking without informing me directly or giving any reason for cancellation. Not impressed if thats the level of service, you would be better of finding some where else to stay. I definitely wont be recommending them to anyone

We are a badminton club and one of our members suggested this venue for our rather early Xmas do. Unfortunately one of the chefs had let them down and they had us and a black tie party to contend with. That being said the staff here are extremely motivated, professional, and attentive. Much to their dismay three things went wrong on the evening, two of the main dishes had been missed due to a computer glitch (?) and the sweets were a long time coming due to the sheer volume of dinners they were trying to distribute between the two parties. Our rather brilliant young lady waitress could not be more apologetic and reassuring and delt with the situation brilliantly. The meal was great. When it came to paying the bill we found that they had deducted the two meals that arrived late and one of the sweets to apologise for the delays. Magnificent. Go here if you want to have a good meal at a reasonable price served to you by some fantastic staff. 4 stars for the problems but I would have gave them 5 otherwise. Ian

George Wright hotel boutique and bar Fantastic find. The staff here are fantastic. I booked at late notice and found this place via a web search for anything local. I didnt expect much but was really surprised at this gem. Its tucked away and a little tricky to find. The place isnt much from outside but its lovely once you are in. Great restaurant with a great team. Particular thank you to the young blonde girl that served me, she is doing a great job, well done. The reception team member that took my call jumped on the challenge and got me checked in early, again he did a great job. The lady that welcomed me at reception with a coffee while my room was prepared. Lovely. The rooms are great, a little noisey with other guests but thats the guests not the hotel. The rooms have everything you would need including a robe which is fab, tea and coffee facilites in the room, plenty of space, nice fresh bathrooms, the shower is powerful, the hairdryer is powerful, plenty of plug sockets in the right places. Really great find. The staff are absolutely top. Thank you.

My risotto was flat and flavourless. My friends' falafel ciabatta's were dry. The staff were untrained and confused. They didn't know the menu at all. The bill took ages to arrive when we were the ONLY customers in the restaurant. Such a shame as it used to be nice. I complained but the supervisor started to make excuses. This is NOT customer service. Will vote with my feet and not returned.

Afternoon tea here was fabulous! Fantastic value for money and the cakes are just divine. I've had the chef's cakes before at nearby Fitzwilliam & Hughes and they never fail to disappoint. Will definitely return soon

Booked for lunch having been on other occasions. This visit was marred by a very long wait for service, despite being almost empty. The meals arrived some time apart and were very disappointing. The croquettes were dry and over cooked and appeared to have been reheated. Two of the three burgers were dry with congealed cheese. One burger and the goat’s cheese tarts were the only acceptable things served. Complaints were unwelcome and treated by the management with disdain, who refused to speak to us, the waitress being forced to deal with everything herself. We were eventually given a small discount but we won’t be returning.
