Hotel-Gasthof Goldener Greifen

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. It is well-located in the Altstadt, the staff is very helpful and friendly, the rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are clean. The ambiance can't be beat. The building is old and really has a Bavarian flavor. The restaurant is also a great place to eat. No need to go to any of the tourist trap restaurants on the sidewalks throughout the city when you can eat in comfort right at the hotel. The food is great.

If you are staying in Rothenburg, stay in the walled city, and stay here! Located right off the main square, you could not be more convenient. The room was fine, nice and quiet. Breakfast was an A+, as good as you will find. They have a restaurant we did not use, and a really neat beer garden in the back. This is a 100% referral to anyone who asks me where to stay in Rothenburg.

Good location near city hall. One of only a few restaurants open on Monday. We were seated immediately on a Sunday afternoon. Prices are reasonable. Food was really good - we all enjoyed what we ordered. I do wish they had Coke products instead of Pepsi. Service was good and friendly.

The hotel is beautiful just what you’d expect from a hotel in medieval Rothenburg. Very German baveria in style. Our breakfast was wholesome and plentiful, warm eggs fruit bread juices ham cheeses coffee, and a lovely lady serving it, thank you. We are on our second night as o had seen on the internet what food I was choosing disappointed they were not serving food on our first night. Our host was wonderful and very helpful and informative. Our stay was perfect as is Rothenburg.

I booked Hotel Gasthof Goldener Greifen via Agoda with check in date on Dec 15, 2022 and check out on Dec 16. In Agoda website, it states specifically that guest needs to settle the room rate to the hotel upon check-out. I have used by credit card as guarantee when I do the booking. In case I don’t show up or cancel the booking, room fee will be charged to my credit card, which I agree. I have stayed in this hotel on Dec 15 and paid the room rate by cash when I check-out. After finishing my trip when I return to my home town, I find that the room fee is charged to by credit card, meaning that the hotel double check me. I had sent several emails to Agoda for follow-up on the refund status. Case has not been resolved. The responses from customer experience staff are not professional and not reliable. It keeps asking me for credit card transaction records as evidence which I have shared several times. There is one response Brandon, customer experience staff, mentions that Agoda’s payment system has requested in an ‘authorization hold’ from bank not charge. However I show Agoda all the transaction record is the charges, not hold. Then customer experience staff keeps asking for my credit card transaction record to prove double charge. Customer experience staff even do not trace the past communication record, and simply ask me the same question for credit card information. I have told Agoda that I have not kept the official receipt (paper statement) from hotel, which I can never believe Agoda and the hotel makes advantage of this and can charge me double. According to my credit card transaction description, the room rate is charged by Hotel Gasthof Goldener Greifen. That means Agoda passes my credit card to 3rd party without my endorsement. This is a serious matter which I have questioned Agoda, but no prompt responses. I will take legal action to sue Agoda and Hotel Gasthof Goldener Greifen. I’m extremely disappointed on Agoda and the Hotel Gasthof Goldener Greifen. Blacklist Agoda and Hotel Gasthof Goldener Greifen! Be mindful. Don’t be the next victim!

We had a great stay at Hotel Gasthof Goldener Greifen! The rooms were well appointed and very clean. It is centrally located and quick walk from the train station.There is a restaurant onsite which served a great Breakfast.
