Newcastle House Rothbury

We had a voucher given to us for Redletterdays and since we wanted to go to Cragside House, we booked in here for two nights. We didn't even stay for one night. A workman had to go and find someone to help us as there was noone around to ask. The computer took an age to fire up and when it did, we were told that we had a bunk room. I did not book a bunk room as we are 65 and 76 and it would not appeal to either of us to climb a ladder to go to bed. When I said that wasn't acceptable, it was a case of, well that's all there is. My other half had gone to the toilet and when he came back, he said there were holes in the linoleum on the floor. The whole place had not a nice smell about it and looked down trodden. The photo on the site looked lovely, but in reality it's anything but. The pictures I took of the outside, made it look better than it was. I would never visit there again.

The Newcastle House is more 'pub with rooms' than hotel and is quite old-fashioned. In the public areas, particularly the lounge bar, this is quite appealing, in the bedrooms less so. Our room, possibly their only en suite one, was distinctly tired with, for example, tiles in the bathroom which had been painted over starting to peel. Having said that, everything was clean, all the lights and appliances worked, the bed was comfortable and the staff were excellent, as was breakfast. While not up to the highest standards it is notably cheap so represents very good value for money. Would I stay again? Certainly!

Went for Sunday lunch took one look at the pink turkey and lump of fat passing as pork and got my money back and went to the Turks head up the street beautiful meal a far cry from other three members who stayed and was disgusted one has a bad stomach the other two just left most possibly the worst lunch in 52 years on this earth being sold in this place go to Turks head for quality

Went for Sunday lunch the meat was full of fat so much so, left most of it, veg didn’t come out until we were half way through the meal and longer again for the mashed potatoes as they had ran out, no extra gravy came with the veg so that was dry, complained to the management and was told very curtly it was late in the day and we should have booked!! Sorry but that shouldn’t make a difference! As of that wasn’t bad enough I came home with a very bad stomach. Will certainly not be visiting again

Some of the best real ales served in the north east. Nice bars serving good food. Modestly priced room for walkers right in the centre of rothbury. Sport shown in front bar. The staff are All very sociable keeping the best cellar for miles around.

Very warm welcome. Outstanding value for money. Got everything we needed from the stay. Staff were really helpful and gave us everything we needed. Had the dog with us and it was no problem whatsoever. Thanks so much, we'll hopefully be back soon.
