Visited for lunch with family. A really gorgeous dining area, quiet and peaceful. Great music choices too. Service was quick and very friendly. Food was cooked really well and was tasty. Great size and value for money. Would happily visit again!

We arrived on the Tuesday afternoon and check in was confusing. After standing around for 5 minutes my husband found a member of staff who showed us our room, handed us our keys, told us basic breakfast instructions and hurridly left. The hotel looks like it is in the process of being done up a little, shame our room had flaky paint, loose door handle and bathroom door dragged on the carpet, wallpaper coming off. Clean, comfortable bed, but very dusty room, curtains, wall and ceiling light all covered in dust which aggravated my husband's asthma. The cleaner needs to get into the nooks and crannys. The bathroom was dusty around the radiator and bath edges and skirting boards dirty. The hotel is literally burning money with the heating,ALL RADIATORS in the hotel are on 24 hours a day and it is so hot. Our radiator could not be regulated so 5 was as hot as 1 so in the end we just turned it off. Only one of the windows could be opened. Breakfast room had small fridge with fresh juice/milk etc which as there was only an hour window for breakfast could be out on the sides in jugs. Alot of the guests were elderly so would be easier for them. The breakfast itself was lovely with good fresh food and choice of menu and the young girl serving, very polite. Brick dust on skirting board in breakfast room for duration of our stay, again, dust a problem! Did not eat here in the evening so cannot comment on food but bar area modernised and looks lovely. Plenty of car parking space at rear. Unfortunately for us, will not return due to the heating and cleaning issues but the hotel is in a prime location and has plenty of potential.

Fantastic Sunday lunch! We enjoyed the beef and pork options all cooked to perfection. The parsnips were delicious and stuffing was an added bonus! The apple and raspberry crumble was lovely, all with great service. We will be back soon!!!

We arrived at the Queens Head on a Sunday afternoon in July whilst on a road trip of Northumberland. Upon checking-in we did not receive the warmest of greetings and was just shown to our room without much information interchange. The hotel is quite a big building with plenty of parking at the rear. Unfortunately, it looked a bit tired throughout. However, our room (room 6, two doubles on the top floor) was very nice, cosy and modern looking and well decorated. We did have a very good night’s sleep there. The bedroom and bathroom windows could not be adjusted as the stays were broken, so we had to have them wide open, which was not a problem. Breakfast turned out to be very basic and disappointing, especially if you didn’t want a full English, and we could have done with fresh fruit and a better variety of yoghurts. Rothbury and area are a very interesting area and worth exploring if you are staying longer. Very close and convenient for Cragside which was our next destination.

We stayed here for 1 night. The room itself was pleasant enough, but there was a slight odour in the bathroom around the toilet? Plus the toilet seat was un unhinged. Tried to fix it but we couldn't. Breakfast was another matter! Incredibly disappointing! The young chap hadn't a clue what was going on! No menu, we waited a good 15 mins before we were asked what hot drinks we would like. Another couple got served before us. No menu. He spilt coffee all over the table! We heard a conversation that they were all hungover from the night before! No toast..had to ask for it! Eggs rock hard..toast hard..terrible..sorry guys. Very disappointing 😞

We have stayed at The Queens Head a few times over the last few years as Rothbury is a lovely place as base for a trip to Northumberland. The Queens Head has undergone a bit of a revamp in terms of the bar and restaurant. Which both have nice decor and furnishings. Other areas of the building could do with a bit of tlc and dusting. Our bedroom was roomy and above the restaurant so nice and quiet. Pillows a bit lumpy. Now onto breakfast. The breakfast room could do with a tidy up/dusting. Plastic bag and empty plant pots left out. Sideboards and mirrors not been dusted for a while. I spotted a previous comment on Trip Advisor about poorly cooked eggs. This was the case in our experience I ordered scrambled eggs what I got was a chopped up fried egg. My husbands eggs benedict had over cooked poached eggs. The following morning we opted for pancakes and full breakfast which were both fine. No staff around for check out. Guests are just expected to leave room keys in a box near the restaurant. We tried the restaurant and food was very nice and had drinks in the bar. It's a shame the accomodation is not to the same standard as the bar and restaurant.

The room was a good size and generally clean. The bed was comfortable and the shower was good. But the room needs secondary glazing as the original windows do nothing to cut down noise. The duvet was much too heavy for summer temperatures. The breakfast on both mornings were woefully slow and on the first morning the eggs were ridiculously over cooked. The dresser in the dining room looked very sad. No fruit, fresh or tinned, no pastries and a poor selection of cereal. Running out of orange juice didn't help either. On the plus side the coffee was good but having to ask for more milk was inconvenient.

Stayed for two nights on a B & B basis. Evening meal was excellent but when it came to breakfast the servers didn’t understand egg cooking request. The first breakfast was sent back and when it was returned instead of the requested broken, turned and cooked right through egg which I requested originally it came back cremated (originally poached). The second day it came poached after being requested again as the day before, instead it came back fried with a runny yolk. Having asked to see the chef he didn’t even understand what I wanted and refused to talk to me and walked away. The breakfast by this time was cold and not edible. No management on duty to talk to either.
