Kingston Lobster Motel

This was an excellent motel for our overnight stop - unit was spacious and very clean and well appointed with very comfy bed, table, sofa and kitchenette. Decent size bathroom (not so keen on the huge shower head but that’s personal preference). Parking at the door. Best motel we have stayed in Australia

The property was advertised as refurbished rooms… apparently only 4 have been refurbished…the room was very dirty the carpet was gross and we didn’t attempt to use the bathroom… checked out the very next morning.. had booked a 5 day stay.

Nobody at check in, flies in the room.

I booked this motel for work on my co-workers whimsy; who wouldn't want to stay next to the Big Lobster. Ideal location on the main road however the facade is a little dated and, in my opinion, offputting. Check-in was slightly annoying with no person at the counter. It's either use the touchscreen, which wasn't working, or ring. So we rang, and after 5 minutes we had our pin code. No key, no card, just a pin code. The rear of the motel looks even more dated than the front, but plenty of parking right in front of the rooms. By now, I'm slightly apprehensive but on opening the door, immediately surprised and impressed by the rooms appearance. The entry way opens into a short corridor with cupboard and counter for tea and coffee. Everything is bright and clean and modernised. A funky sliding door hides a very nice bathroom with rain shower head and modern fixtures. In the main room is a queen sized bed, two comfortable armchairs and small table with chairs. A large android tv is mounted on the wall with access to large variety of entertainment, and a split system unit provides climate control. My room had sliding doors looking towards the pool area which was pleasant. Back in the entryway is a bar fridge along with a kettle for tea / coffee. The bathroom is well fitted out in modern colours. The rain shower head has good pressure and heat, just fabulous on a cold day. My only complaints : the shower has no screen in order to utilise the space as best as possible and there is no exhaust fan. So after a blissful 10 minutes under piping hot water, the entire bathroom floor is wet and the mirror is fogged. The floor remained wet for a few hours (winter) affecting access to toilet and bathroom sink. My only other tiny complaint is a lack of sheer curtains so if you want to change, you need to pull the blockout curtains. Sheers would enable privacy during the day when you want natural light. In summary, nice small room for a single, comfortable bed and seating, clean, modern and attractive fixtures. I would recommend it, especially for travellers. There's an OTR petrol station next door with Subway and Moes, and bakery directly across the street that's all frequented by locals. Few little niggling things but couldn't really fault it. There's a pool and access to BBQ however I didn't use them.
