Relais Roncolo 1888 is a bucolic country retreat dedicated to the finer things in life. Its setting at the meeting point of so-called Motor Valley and Food Valley places guests at the heart of what makes the Emilia region of Italy so enticing. Arrive by vintage motor car or shift into a higher gear on a racetrack and trip to the iconic Maserati factory. The Ferrari Museum is also close by. Foodies can embark on culinary adventures from the hotel itself with guided tastings of the organic wine the estate is renowned for. And little compares to sitting and sipping in the 17th-century cellar here. Balsamico is another must-try with Relais Roncolo 1888 home to an evocative Acetaia di Canossa. Both are the perfect prelude to dinner in Ristorante Limonaia that elevates the classic farm-to-table experience. Artfully created plates are served in a reimagined orangery or alfresco on the starlit terrace. Either way the estate-produced organic Lambrusco is the perfect accompaniment. A stroll before dinner is a sublime way to discover more of the 130 hectares of Relais Roncolo 1888. See the vineyards that grow the grapes for the award-winning wines and balsamico produced here. Take a trip back in time to the aristocratic past of Villa Manodori at the heart of the Italianate gardens. Or simply stretch out by the pool before aperitivos at sunset. There is much to discover for those with time to strike out from the hotel too. Choose from horseback riding and electric mountain biking to hiking in the Apennines and Matildic Hills. Meanwhile budding chefs are well served on pasta-making masterclasses as gourmet picnics in the grounds round off a truly memorable stay. We stayed here for a few days. My wife, son and I felt so welcome by Max and Michael and the rest of the staff. Rooms are good, the pool is great. Jogging from the road to the entrance couldn't be more beautiful in the morning. Their on location wine, olive oil and balsamic are so good we shipped ALOT back to the states. Highlights the location is just incredibly relaxing and peaceful the welcoming staff of GM Max, Manager Michael and Host Nadia plus so many more made this place special. after being out every day, we would get back around 5 and go to the pool with a bottle of cold sparkling rose and just chill they reloaded the mini fridge every single day with wine, sodas, juices and beers so no need to even worry about having something. Improvements Service at the pool could be better as you need to walk up to the outdoor bar area and order. The menu for lunch at the pool could be bigger. they just need to have the folks walk around the pool once in a while. These are small issues, but I assure you that Max, Michael and the team are running an incredible 5 star Luxury Boutique Hotel that we will surely come back to again. Thank you, Max, Michael, Lorenzo, Laura, Tinsi, Mike and team!

This countryside vineyard estate is hidden away amongst the hills of Roncolo, and is one of the most striking, picturesque, beautiful hotels I have ever stayed at. It is the perfect blend of modernity and traditional Italian styles. The hotel manager, Massimiliano, and his staff (Michael in particular) cannot do enough for you and are so polite, welcoming, and accommodating. There are a range of activities to do on the estate. We did wine tasting (accompanied with cheese and salami) and balsamic vinegar tasting. Staff were very knowledgable and the produce is divine. The estate is 3 levels, with the hotel on the second level. You are free to roam around the estate as you please and there are several designated walking routes which can take you up to the third level which gives you the most incredible view of several slanted valleys as far as the eye can see. The scenery is stunning. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough for a dose of serenity.

This is a very beautiful and relaxing place, ideal for exploring this very exciting and interesting region of Italy. It’s ideal for going on half day trips and then coming home and relaxing by the beautiful swimming swimming pool or in the extraordinary gardens. All the staff for a wonderful but particularly Laura and Michael and reception were anxious to make us stay very special and they succeeded in that! We loved it!

We enjoyed three nights at Roncolo 1888. The setting is idyllic on the hillside, very peaceful. Our room was comfortable and looked out onto the beautiful garden. We enjoyed the pool and walking in the hills. Breakfast was extensive as you would expect and we ate two nights in the restaurant which was also excellent. The other evening we went down to the winery and enjoyed food from the food trucks and the live music. Laura took us on the balsamic vinegar tour which was very interesting. All in all a fantastic stay made special by the friendly staff.

Such a beautiful start to our Italian Roadtrip. Relais Roncolo 1888 was perfect for our foodie family with a vineyardand a balsamic vinegar producer both on site - tastingsavailable and DO take them up on them if you can. There is currently one restaurant with views to die for; and one more in the making to provide guests with more options. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both meals were lovely but the breakfast was my favourite - mainly for the freshly made doughnuts and Madelines. You can't, after all, beat cake for breakfast! We stayed in the Family suite which was perfect for our little family - 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms meant no shouting for the bathroom in the morning. Family peace has been maintained but, alas, not the waistline.

This really is a hidden gem. Not only is the place itself worth a trip, but also travelling to Emilia was a real discovery. We fell in love with this region (food valley/motor valley anyone?) As a family we kept it busy with hikes, visiting local food producers and the motor valley, but would also have loved just spending the day at the pool. Recently renovated, a very stylish, yet unpretentious estate. Lovely staff with very personal touch. We will be back next summer!

It’s been a while since I have made a review, but in this case I have decided to because Roncolo is a magic place with a lovely and friendly staff. We were welcomed by the reception team (Sorry for not recalling their names) and they gave a great Introduction to the resort and facilities. Our luggage was also delivered to our room by the staff. Our room was located in the beautiful main building which recently (March 2019) was restored with great respect of the history. I have never seen such a beautiful restored building. From floors, interior and wall decorations - Everything was well thought through. Lovely corner room with a beautiful view to the wineyards and sunset. Wonderful bed and great bathroom. Pool Area was great (5 min walk from the main building) had staff on the place who supported with fresh towels and snack/beverages to Purchase. Pool Team (The Tattooed Guy) does an amazing and are quick to support with the various requests. Kudos here ;-) We also joined a FOC Wine tasting with an introduction to the winery and history including local cold cuts. Again a great experience made by the lovely staff. We had the pleasure to eat at “La Limonaia” - Wonderful evening, lovely food, Amazing view and thanks to Fabio for beeing a great host to our table ;-) We had to leave Roncolo early, and again showed the Roncolo team their support and prepared a lovely breakfast bag/coffee we could bring on our long ride to next destination. Roncolo is a lovely place, in a lovely region for “foodies” but most important Roncolo has a team which makes a difference. Kudos again… Only thing I would highlight and which should be changed is that this resort deserves and should be a minimum +12 age. Mainly because of the pool area…

So glad to have found this gem of a winery/resort/restaurant in Italy’s ‘Food Valley.’ This is a beautiful home base for exploration of the region’s food and drink bounty. And, you need go no further out your guest room door for the best of Lambrusco and gourmet dining at the hotel’s on site, destination restaurant La Limonaia. Our room is elegant, chic, and exceedingly comfortable. Highly recommend this ‘off the beaten path’ place. It is special. Oh, and breakfast is sublime.
