The hotel is relatively old, the faucets are rusted, the elevator is old, and there is a wooden staircase, which is not very friendly to tourists

Disastrous hotel, old and poorly maintained structure. dirty everywhere. The carpet in the room and in the corridors was filthy. Stairs to access the room are impassable without holding on to the handrail. Breakfast in the morning disastrous. Avoid this hotel.

The Hotel is right in the centre, next to many of the places we wanted to see. We were there for a Special Meeting and it was a base for us to use. The Hotel is quaint and old fashioned but is in real need of some tender loving care and a big upgrade. It suited my purpose, but when you book a room with a double bed and the push 2 singles of different heights together with individual duvets it's a bit of a miss match. Breakfast in the morning was good, with lots of choice. The staff were friendly and pleasant. Would look for something a bit more modern next time.

Right in the city center, this hotel/restaurant would definitely benefit by a good makeover. Nevertheless, the staff is very nice and helpful and the rooms are relatively large and cosy. I found the room and toilet clean and quite bright. The breakfast was nice and freshly prepared. Overall I would say it was a nice hotel for a short stay.

In between Christmas 2022 and The New Year of 2023.We went tried to think of something different !!!! So we went off for a couple of nights and stayed in this incredible hotel in the City Center of Groningen. It was just like turning the clock back to the times of Charles Dickens.....Try it if you get the chance!!!

Our room allocation was not to the specification we paid for. It took three attempts to get my phone number to access the garage parking. The overall decor and condition is poor: torn and threadbare carpet, broken mirror and bodged repair to fire place. The courtyard could be, an inviting place for a drink/ food,however the exterior paint is in a poor condition, weeds growing through the block paving and plants desperately need attention, most plants were dead already. The road noise at the back (room 43) started with deliveries to cafe and shops, at 05.30, (admittedly) made worse with windows open due to hot weather. Best feature is the location, shower and good supply of hot water. A real effort on attention to detail would lift the experience of staying here.

De entree is mooi geüpdatet. De binnentuin is leuk gedaan. Maar dan houd het wel een beetje op. De kamer was klein en gedateerd. Er was niet een flesje water aanwezig of zo. De kamer zullen best wel aangepakt worden, voor nu zou dan wat extra luxe verzorging op de kamer al een verschil maken. Je betaalt tenslotte een behoorlijke prijs.

Super plek. Prima prijs / kwaliteit. Schimmelpenninck heeft de grandeur van een oude welgestelde dame, maar kan voor de huidige prijzen zich niet de luxe veroorloven alles tip top in oude stijl te renoveren. Toch heeft het ook dit z'n charme. Zou alles n.l. perfect gerenoveerd en ingericht zijn, dan moet je denken aan een veelvoud van de huidige overnachtingsprijs om een nachtje te kunnen slapen in hartje Groningen. Alles wat een hotel moet bieden, is voorhanden. Prima balie personeel, dat binnen de kortste keren de gasten kent. Uitstekende bedden. Schone kamers en douche + WC, Geen standaard doos met bad en bed, maar een kamer waaraan je kunt zien dat er getracht is het goede "oude" te behouden en dat betekent ook dat het niet altijd volmaakt is. So what! Ook het ontbijt is gewoon goed. Geen haastig gebakken brood, maar smaakvol! Parkeren? In overleg geen probleem (er is ook altijd nog een parkeergarage op loopafstand)
