Surfside Resort

The room was very dated. There was rust on the refrigerator. Didn’t look like it has been updated since the early 80’s. I was extremely disappointed overall. The staff wasn’t friendly when we checked in or checked out. The only saving grace for this place was the view. For almost $300 dollars I would expect a place that was modern and welcoming.

Overall we had an excellent experience. All the most important features were outstanding. The ocean view from the apartment and balcony couldn't have been better. The access to the beach was close and easy. The facility was clean. The beds were clean and comfy. The kitchen was well supplied. It felt safe. Staff was helpful and friendly. There were some less important features that could use improvement/up grading. We had the "deluxe family suite" but living room had just a small rather run down sofa. The single end table had no lamp which made it hard to read sitting there. The single overhead lighting was very bright, not at all restful. There was no coffee table or other surface to hold a suitcase or other items, or place to rest feet. Both TV remotes did not work well, maybe just needed new batteries.

I have been coming here for almost 10 years; 3 times in the last 4 months. I am a good customer. I am clean, responsible, and respectful. I usually leave the room cleaner than I found it. I was extremely disappointed on the trip I just came back from (August 22-25, 2024). We paid extra to have a beach view and 2 pets - $400+ per night with taxes and fees. This is a nice hotel, but definitely not 5-Star! It is old and outdated. I love the little town, with its tree covered hills and lakes on one side, and beautiful, pristine beach on the other. It is never crowded at this beach. This is why I was willing to pay more. I go to the beach to get away from the noisy, busy city life, i.e., for peace and tranquility. Instead, we had to listen to fireworks late into the night, 2 out of the 3 nights we were there. When I asked management about the rules, I was told they don't own the beach the city does, and to call the police. This is a joke. Rockaway Beach Police Department have banker hours. When you call after hours, you get a message stating to call 911 in an emergency or a police department in a neighboring town for non-emergencies (which is highly unlikely they are going to drive 25-30 miles or more for a firework infraction). I think at the very least, Surfside Resort employees should contact authorities on behalf of their customers - especially given the high price of the beachfront rooms, and have rules for customers like they do regarding smoking in or near the building – charge fees for breaking the law/their rules and policies. They have signs everywhere about city ordinances in regards to smoking and the steep penalties if caught. Why can't they do the same for inconsiderate people who break the city ordinance firework ban? I could have stayed home and got to hear fireworks all hours of the night for FREE!!!!!!!

Very Well designed so that every room (especially on the 2nd floor) is quiet. No shared walls. The rooms are very clean and nicely furnished. The staff is quick to respond, helpful and friendly. This is one of my favorite hotels in all my years of travel.

we returned recently for 3 nights, and it was great....been coming here for decades, and we always have a good time....the room is clean, the hotel recycles, and the room is spacious....the kitchen offers choices if you want to cook in the room....the staff is very friendly, and informative....the close proximity to both the beach and a few blocks away lake lytle is excellent....we love to run on the beach in the morning, and take many walks into town to visit a restaurant...thx so much....

Very nice, spacious room with complete kitchen, including full size refrigerator and range. Clean & comfortable. Large windows for nice ocean view. You can see blue arrow that shows where my room was...at end of short hallway. Parking was right in front of building. There is a pool building (I didn't use.) Very convenient location. There are several separate buildings...I was in bldg A. Spent two nights there.
