This has been a wonderful experience. Rocamadour is great in iteself. The hotel just makes it even more special. Everybody so nice and helpful, the settings (what a garden!) and location absoutely perfect, the room very pleasant, the whole place charming. And absolute silence at night. It makes a very easy central spot to explore the whole region. We will surely come back. Thank you Martine and whole team.

Les Esclargies was a comfortable, quiet, and clean hotel set on a small green space of its own and yet close to the medieval city of Rocamadour and the sacred site above it. Martine was so welcoming and her language skills so helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed for 3 nights in a Chambre confort. The room was clean & large enough, with a small balcony overlooking the rear gardens. The bathroom was fine. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good, favouring the continental style. The only hot food was scrambled eggs (the kitchen is very small) so don’t expect a “full English” to be laid on. There was a good selection of cereals, muesli, fresh fruit, cold meats, cheese, yoghurts, different breads & pastries. The hotel is ideally located at the top of Rocadamour, within an easy max 10 mins walk of the restaurants, close to the walk overlooking the medieval town below and the paths (or lifts) up & down. On site parking is not a problem. The staff were super friendly & efficient, offering a lot of information about where to go for evening meals, walks & best things to visit. There is a swimming pool, which we didn’t use, but in the hot season it would offer a welcome dip. All in all, our stay was comfortable & its location is excellent for a stay to take in Rocadamour & the surrounding area.

Quick summary: lovely hotel that supports eco-friendly practices. Very comfortable bed, quiet room. Location is close to everything but removed from crowds, good for touring the area. Friendly, helpful, professional staff. We stayed 4 nights here during our visit to the Dordogne area. The hotel sits on top of the medieval village, but there is an easy walk to the elevator that can take visitors up and down to town, at a nominal charge. The staff are very helpful with suggestions, lots of travel brochures, directions, etc. We stayed in the “exclusive double room” Vitalie, which was very comfortable with a large king bed. This room is on the ground floor and opens to the lovely garden in back. There is also a small sofa, cocktail table, large screen TV, coffee/tea maker (no cream/milk.). Individually controlled HVAC works very well. The Wi-Fi drops out at times, but I’m not sure if that is a function of the hotel or the area. The bathroom has a combined tub/shower with a very high rim (18” high or so.). I love to relax in a bath at the end of the day, but I am 5’4”, and getting into the tub (or taking a shower) was a challenge. I could either do a high kick over the rim and a few gymnastics moves, or sit of the edge of the tub and swing my legs in. Either way, it was a bit of a safety concern as there are no grab bars. Even my shower-preferred husband wished there were grab bars. Hand soap and shampoo/shower gel provided, I.e. bring your own body lotion, if you use it. It also always annoys me when the shampoo/shower gel is wall-mounted about 4 feet from the floor, I.e. too high for anyone sitting in the tub to reach without standing up and down a few times…with wet, soapy hands on porcelain…with no grab bars… The breakfast is wonderful. It is extensive buffet of pastries, breads, cereals, meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs in a buffet dish, yogurt, fresh fruits and juices. Guests get their own coffee by the cup, which is very good, but sometimes results in a waiting line at busy times. Easy parking. Easy walk to a number of good restaurants on top of the village - no great need to go down the cliff. There used to be a nice swimming pool, but we did not get a chance to use it. The hotel has a small selection of lovely gift items for sale, e.g. soaps, tote, etc. So why only 4 dots out of 5? Mostly it’s about the bathroom, but in a perfect world it would be easier to find an outlet for your digital devices. You can unplug the coffee maker, or unplug a lamp under a nightable, but that’s about it. Also: the furniture is without drawers anywhere, which means you are alway working out of your suitcase, save for a few hanging items. This gets old. I really wish there had been a small drawer in the nightstand to catch the day’s odds-and-ends, eg digital cords, watch, adapter plug, Kleenex, etc. , in addition to reading material and a glass of water usually on top. The nightstand was kind of a pileup mess every night. I also lo

We have just spent a night at this fabulous hotel and can highly recommend it. Martine and her team are friendly and speak good English. They take time to explain how to get to Rocamadour ( the hotel is in a perfect location for this) and happily answer any questions you have about the Dordogne. The rooms are a good size , we had one on the upper floor that looked out over their gorgeous gardens , it also had a little balcony. Breakfast is fantastic! A buffet of everything you can think of - muesli, yoghurt , nuts , eggs , croissants , ham, salami ,prosciutto , homemade cakes , juices , coffee. Best hotel breakfast we had in our entire France trip. Take my advice and book it if you can - it’s superb!

This hotel was the best discovery we have had in many years. I have tried hard to think of anything we didn’t like or things we think they could improve on but truthfully there are none! We are a retired couple and the peace and quiet at this hotel is just what we love. The location was absolutely perfect for us, just far enough away from the crowd in Rocamadour but close enough to spend as much time in the town as you want. You can walk to the town in a very short time, if you can cope with the steep hill back! Alternatively you can get the lift down the hillside and back as it runs all day. Personally we found the local area to the hotel was much preferred in the evening, where they have at least 3 really good restaurants within a 10 minute flat walk. In fact we found all of the restaurants here to be much better quality and with much better service than we found in the town of Sarlat. But back to the hotel, which was exceptional. It all starts with Jade, the receptionist, who is a charming young woman and who seems to want to do anything she can to ensure you have the best stay. She speaks very good English and her style of wanting to do anything for you, is so impressive. The rooms are beautiful with the best beds we have ever had in France. They are soft to medium and they gave us the best nights sleep in our whole holiday in France. The outside patio area of our room was the most perfect place to relax and enjoy the wonderful views of the garden. Parking was just round the corner from our room, so convenient! There is space for a lot of clothes in the wardrobe and a desk/dressing table which is a rare find! Add to that an electric kettle and tea/coffee etc, a great shower and lots of space. We stayed here for two nights before going on to Sarlat to continue our holiday but we missed Les Esclargies so much we actually cut short our stay in Sarlat to go back to this hotel for our last night, even though it did add another hour onto our journey home. That’s praise indeed and the reason why we know we will be returning as soon as possible.
