Nice breakfast, clean rooms, great location, but no parking available near hotel, so need to carry everything by hand

We stayed at this hotel as part of a TUI package. Staff are on the whole friendly, the rooms and public areas very clean. Our room seemed to be recently refurbished with a nice modern bathroom and excellent shower. The maids cleaned every day and towels and bedding were changed regularly. This is where the review must highlight the downsides and I question it's 4 star official rating. Our room had one small window, looking out onto a wall. This made the room dark and we could not tell what the weather was like outside. The rooms are advertised as having air conditioning. This did not work in our room from the point we arrived until we left 7 days later and the room temperature hovered around 26 degrees C. The receptionist first told me her manager had said the main A/C plant was broken but an engineer had been called. The next day things had changed, apparently the manager had told reception that she had turned the air conditioning off because the weather wasn't warm enough and we were offered a fan!!! I believe, from reading anther review, that the true answer is that they don't switch it on until June. We paid for A/C, we should get it no matter what time of year it is. Accessibility is also an issue. The hotel consists of two separate buildings with different floor levels. If you are lucky to be given a room in the building where reception is located, then a lift serves all floors. We were in the other building where the lift starts on the first floor. To get to this is like an obstacle course, going up and down various short flight of stairs which seem to include a "bridge". Hard to describe and I've added some photos. I presume anyone with mobility problems is given a room with full lift access. The stairs are polished granite without a non slip surface or contrasting nosings for the partially sighted. Breakfast is adequate. You can make your own tea but have to ask for a cup. For coffee you have to ask and the staff will bring you one. How bizarre!!!

Great hotel in a perfect location. After staying in other locations in the area we would definitely recommend a hotel in the centre as it has everything right on your doorstep and the area is very picturesque. Room was lovely and immaculate and the sun terrace is lovely. The only issue that we had was that there is no air conditioning at the moment (end of May) which meant that it could get quite warm in the room especially on a morning. This is more of an issue with TUI though as this should be explained when it is advertised as having air con to avoid confusion. If you are aware of this and happy then it wouldn’t be a problem. We have found that this is a common thing among hotels in the area so just something to be aware of. Overall we had a great stay and would definitely return again.

We stayed at Antico Borgo for 3 nights in a balcony room. At check in we didn’t even get a “hello” and we were told to leave our passports with reception for 15 minutes whilst we go to our room. The room was quite hot, we were on the fourth floor and the thermostat displayed our room at 26 degrees. We were unsuccessful in turning the air con on so we asked reception if they would kindly help us work out how to put it on! We were told that it was “policy” that they couldn’t put the air con on until June. I explained that this wasn’t outlined on their website or on any booking sites, so I’d advise that if you don’t sleep well in the heat and it’s not the summer, then don’t stay here! Despite that, the room was spotlessly clean and the breakfast had a good selection. Coffee was not good at all but there is a coffee machine in reception where they make better coffee. We had an issue where the parking card we were given would not work and therefore we had to pay more at the car park than what we expected. Staff were good with trying to help/sort this out for us but we gave up in the end. I’m not entirely sure where the 4th star comes in here as this is a 3 star at best. Reasons being; no coffee/tea amenities in rooms, no refill of water bottles after the first night, no air con during May, no refills or replacements of shower gel, soap and shampoo (even when we ran out) and numerous staff on their personal phones throughout the day. Overall, if you’re looking for something basic and clean, this is the place for you. If you’re after something a little extra as a 4 star, it is not. We enjoyed our stay but there are just a number of things which could easily be changed to make this a great 4 star hotel.

Had such a fantastic stay. Every member of staff was wonderful. Cleaning Staff, Receptionists, Dining room team… everyone so helpful & so kind. Hotel room was lovely, very clean, cleaned every day, towels changed regularly. Really could not find a single fault with this hotel, we even asked for a late check out as it was pouring with rain & we had an evening flight, they accommodated us at no charge! Could not recommend this hotel enough!

I have stayed in this resort many times. The hotel I would usually use was full so booked an alternative. The room was very small. You know it must be when the bathroom has a sliding door to save space. Could not access both sides of the wardrobe as the bedside table was blocking off one of the doors. Staff were excellent in reception, room cleaning and dining. Although our balcony did not get swept once all week. Food was disappointing. Hotel food in this area for evening meals has never been excellent, but when you are unable to work out if you have been given polenta or mashed potato because it seems like neither it is not good. Some individual courses were good, so if you have a sweet tooth you will be fine.

THE ROOM: large and spacious room overlooking a pedestrianised street (room 304), with views from our large balcony over rooftops and the Bastione. Electronic safe and a mini fridge available. No charge for the safe. No ironing board or iron available but not a major problem as we brought a mini travel iron having read other reviews. Clean and spacious modern bathroom with shower (great water pressure!), no bath but this wasn't an issue for us personally. Housekeeping was spot on, lovely clean sheets and towels everyday. FOOD: I found breakfast and dinner quite average but my husband rated it a little higher. Mainly cold foods in the morning, hot food consisted only of bacon and egg, sometimes sausages. Otherwise very continental. Service from Eduardo and Natasha was second to none, they were brilliant. Very attentive and friendly. OTHER: There is a solarium on the top floor with fantastic views over the lake, a number of sunbeds and seating areas available. Often very quiet up there when we visited. LOCATION: Large supermarket less than a 10 minute walk away and a huge number of restaurants, cafes and ice cream shops within metres. We had the best time!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The hotel has an excellent location and is close to plenty of shops and restaurants. It is also close to the ferry port and a few lovely pebbled beaches that were great for taking a dip in the lake. Our room was spotlessly clean with daily maid service. The staff were lovely and always very helpful. We had an early pick up on our last day and an early breakfast was provided which was a nice touch. We were half board - breakfast and evening meal were both excellent. There was a nice variety to choose from and the food was delicious. We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to visit again in the future.

The hotel is very well situated in the old town of Riva and a very short walk from the main square / harbour. As part of the old town, the hotel has a quirky design (e.g. 2 separate unconnected lifts to access our room when carrying cases), but the room itself was a nice layout with plenty of space, although some minor sprucing up could be beneficial (eg. Fridge door had come away from the facia). The hotel has a nice sun terrace on the roof, which we made use of. We were bed and breakfast, and the breakfasts were continental plus a couple of options for scrambled eggs and bacon. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful during our stay. Overall if your looking for a hotel with character in the old town, this is a good option.
