This is our second time staying at the Freezer. It’s a very clean hostel/accomodation. Paying for a stay in the hostel or with a campervan gains you access to a kitchen, bathroom/WC, washer/dryer, and an awesome lounging area with board games and live music.

The Freezer Hostel & Culture Centre in Hellissandur on Snaefellsness Peninsula was an interesting cultural experience for me, my husband, and our teenage daughter. For decades, its been a venue for musicians and comedians, in addition to serving as a hostel. We really enjoyed the artsy vibe and talking with some of the employees there. They offered a yoga class in the morning which looked like fun. The mural depicting a Norse goddess that's on our room's wall was painted by a local artist. We could leave our food in the kitchen, although there is little food to buy for breakfast. On the negative side, the cost of a room doesn't include towels, and you need to push the shower button every 5 or so minutes to turn on the water again (which is actually a good feature in terms of conserving water!). The lap of luxury it's not (what hostel is?), but it's a fun and artsy place to stay for a night.

What a terrific hostel design! Spots to hang out, board games, music floor with instruments, and a closed in kitchen space to meet people as well. One of the assistants even showed us his fishing boat!! Shoutout Orvar.

The best of the 8 hostel that we went to while in iceland would 100% recommend it! The beer is at a acceptable price. Also theres a lot of destination close to it. Good place to make friends and to drink with the lads.

It is in fact a sort of large hangar converted into both a cultural center and a youth hostel. The large common lounge area is fantastic, there is also a whole “cinema” area, ping-pong table, table football, etc. In short, everything you need to spend pleasant evenings. The room is functional, basic but clean. At the time of our stay, an Icelandic "classic" was being shown in the evening, which was interesting. Small downside concerning the kitchen, not very organized (no stopper for washing dishes) and I pity the people who sleep in the room next door. Fairly weak WiFi in the rooms as well. In the end, a place that is far from luxurious but warm, full of resourcefulness and charm.
