Birthday celebration! The most wonderful overnight stay at Tan Hill. Cosy double bedroom overlooking rugged moorland. Friendly staff and great pub food classics. Open fires with gales blowing outside, felt safe and warm. There was a wedding celebration and we got invited into the barn for dancing into the wee hours. Thoroughly enjoyed hearty full English breakfast following morning. 5* stay.

The Inn did not disappoint, fabulous location, very cosy with roaring open fire on what was a very cold night. Staff were lovely, friendly, efficient and very helpful. Good choice of ales and beer. Food was good too with a decent menu, generous portions at reasonable prices

Fabulous location with amazing views. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent and the warm atmosphere great. Would recommend anyone to check this place out regardless of the time of year. Wish I had gotten snowed in.

So cosy, so christmassy, so character full, so peaceful, so atmospheric....so perfect. We fancied a night somewhere isolated, not just country village, but isolated. Tan Hill delivered big time. Offering a warm welcome against the beautiful and bleak landscape, ideal for relaxing, getting cosy or exploring. Looking forward to experiencing it again.

We stayed at Tan Hill to celebrate our son in laws 40th birthday and it was a lovely stay. We stayed in room 3 which was small, but clean and comfortable. Enough for sleeping in. Food was fabulous, as were the staff and the atmosphere in the pub. One ticked off my bucket list that’s for sure, been wanting to stay there for 30 plus years and finally made it. Will definitely stay again.

we attended at the start of December to see Santa. It was amazing. Can’t put into words how special it was. We arrived early. Got a seat by the fire where owls were being brought through much to my 9 year olds amazement. had a drink before being seated at our table. Food was beautiful! Beautifully presented and enough for four and the baby. An art pack was on the table for our son too. Santa was just perfect and helped my son choose a gift for himself and his baby brother all with owls to see and post a letter with. None of this felt rushed. We then stayed for puddings as a last minute addition and the chef even did our 7 month old some more of the suede and carrot mash that he demolished at our first course. Thank you so much tan hill. A member of staff Nikki recommended it last year and we haven’t been dissapointed. Can’t wait to book again for next year!!!

This is a fantastic place comfiest bed staff were the most pleasant I ever came across. Very friendly place and people. two small things was absolutely delicious hot food was on cold plates making food go cold very quick. And onsuit needs a good deep clean But will Deffo return.

Our stay at Tan Hill Inn was an absolute delight, and the scenic drive from Sunderland made it all the more worthwhile. We booked one of the domes for the night, which was wonderfully cozy, equipped with plenty of heaters and an electric blanket on the double bed—perfect for a chilly evening. The toilet facilities were conveniently located inside the main building, just a short walk away. The pub itself exudes charm, with roaring open fires and a fantastic selection of beers, wines, and spirits. Our evening meal was exceptional—a giant Yorkshire pudding generously filled with tender brisket and a delicious homemade lasagna. Breakfast the next morning didn’t disappoint either, with a hearty full English, freshly made toast, and plenty of tea and coffee to set us up for the day. The whole experience was incredibly relaxing, and waking up to a dusting of snow just added to the magic. A truly memorable stay—we can’t wait to return!
