Palm Hotel & Spa

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. Overall, we 've stayed several times in 4 star hotels at other locations, the level at Réunion seems to be lower anyhow. Compared to other hotels in la Réunion, Palm Hotel seemed to be the better one: better maintained, more stylish, more service from the staff. We received an upgrade to a junior suite, which was a really pleasant surprise as it came with a hottub outside, an extra room/bed and an outside shower. Definitely, this contributed to the positive overall experience. The hotel is beautifully located, although no direct access to the beach below. For the brave, there is an adventurous path downhill (and back up again afterwards) which I did two times. Not to try if you have no proper shoes nor long pants! But if you do this, you can continue to hike up to the ”cap” which delivers magnificent views and I definitely recommend. When we booked this hotel, a shuttle service was posted, although i didnt see it. Staying here we opted for the half board, which we wouldnt do again if we would have known. Personally, we dont have to fine dine ”french cuisine” every day, we would have rather opted for a light salad or something. This was our main challenge at this hotel: lunch as well as dinner offered very few ”light” options, basically there were almost no salads or a light pasta on neither menus. The only option for lunch or light dinner that remained were the tapas (they were very good!). We missed truly, during our entire trip at Reunion, ”light” dishes with vegetables. So my recommendation would be Palm hotel to think about offering for lunch and dinner some international, ”summery” dishes also, for those not interested in duck, foie gras, fish or beef on a daily basis. Dont misunderstand me, the food was good, it was just too heavy for our way of living.

A good hotel on Reunion Island. Hidden in the encirclement of the flower sea and the towering tree, the white French architecture is elegant and romantic. At check-in, there will be a staff member on duty to take us to the room. Many white two-story buildings are divided into several groups, each with a terrace. Level table and chair appliances, high bed cushions. The bathroom and the washroom are divided into two rooms; the toothbrush and toothpaste need to be provided. In addition, a large bottle of mineral water and a small can of coffee powder can be sent daily for free. You can use the French jug in the room to press out two cups of coffee and drink it on the balcony. In terms of facilities, the hotel is located in the lagoon for swimming and snorkeling. The hotel will do several activities a week, cocktail parties, open-air movies and the like. In short, it is very comfortable. It’s not boring to soak the hotel without going out. recommend.
Blue Margouillat Seaview Hotel-Relais & Chateaux

I arrived at the airport & realized the closest place to buy a sim card was near the Carrefour in town (since neither my Hong Kong sim nor my 2 wifi eggs worked here), being the day before Christmas eve the traffic was crazy & even trying to find parking was complete madness, by the time I got to the hotel it was getting dark and being able to grab a nice meal (had the 9 course seafood tasting menu with wine pairing) and then roll off to bed felt so indulgent. So here is the conundrum, you visit Reunion to ogle the prehistoric landscapes and lush foliage, hike, take helicopter tours of the jurassic mountains, but once at the Margouillat, you just don’t want to leave. For those that want adventures and luxury.... this place is the place to be. Being in or near the water is what it’s all about, the pool was never crowded, the view of the incredible coastline stunning all times of the day. After each meal, it was nice knowing it was literally just one flight of steps back to the room, or just pass out under the frangipani tree. It was an impeccable stay except for dinner my third and last night (12/25) when they were obviously understaffed, I sat down at 730 pm, waited until 8 pm before they took my order, @ 830 pm my amuse bouche arrived, @ 9 pm since my appetizer still did not made its appearance, I decided to leave, especially since guests that arrived after me were served their main course already & I had an early flight to catch. Otherwise, would have rated this a 5.

We had a casual meeting at the bar with a group of local and foreign friends. From the security at the gate via the front desk to our meeting place, the bar, the personal, professional and proactive service of the staff was remarkable. First time in Réunion island I see a security guard come out of his booth, greet the client AND, this is the exceptional part, offer to guide a new client / visitor to where he wishes to go. Super pleasant without being pretentious at all. Before even reaching the front desk a member of the staff, occupied with a group of clients, greeted with a smile and asked if everything was OK/ if any help was needed. He confirmed I was at the right place and returned to his group of clients. Fluently and appropriately done as he most politely excused the people he was with. On to the front desk, where another pleasant smile greeted me, not hiding behind the computer screen pretending to be busy at all. Equally helpful as the others. Marie at the bar came to take our order at a perfect time, she handled our multilingual group with ease and had that genuine personable quality needed in customer service. She suggested a little improvement to my order, which didn't cost anything, just something a client would not know to ask. Stellar service by her from start to end. A little detail I greatly appreciated was that the juice I ordered was freshly squeezed and not pasteurised juice from a can. On a tropical island juice from a supermarket doesn't sit well with 5 stars. The staff truly portrayed what is loveable, beautiful and charming about Réunion island and France. Each member of the staff we came to contact with today was proactive, fast and genuine. They visibly took pleasure and pride in making sure we were all well taken care of. That's a quality one either has or doesn't have. If it is not within, no training can bring it out. Obviously training shows in how the actual tasks are performed. No complaints in that department either. When you leave a place feeling like you certainly want to return you know they have it right. Thank you all at Akoya team
