Holiday Inn Express & Suites Redding

Our usual choice of hotel to stay and normally, Holiday Inn Express hotels are clean, efficient, above average and the staff are helpful and pleasant. This hotel is NOT any of those things. lst pet room carpet was so stained and filthy that we asked to be moved. Front desk had to phone her supervisor to get permission to move us and then made sure that we knew that she couldn't ”sell” that room to anybody else because we had already been in there. 2nd pet room at first sight was not as bad and we just dropped our luggage and went for a walk with our dog. On return we noticed yellow marks on the rug and we realized that it was dog poop. We couldn't believe it - they charge $40 pet fee, how hard is it to spot clean the rug with a carpet cleaning machine. Phoned the front desk and was informed there was no one to even look at the mess let alone clean it up. We said that we would put a towel over it for the night and before we could say anything else, she hung up on us. Next morning I asked to speak to the manager to let them know about the poop and all I got was lip service. ”Yes we know, it was marked in the housekeeping log and yup, we'll let housekeeping know.” A reluctant sorry and ending every sentence with uh huh and that was it. I didn't expect a free room or any freebies, all I wanted was a sincere and professional response to what would be, in anybody's estimation, a gross problem of dog poop in their bedroom.
Holiday Inn Express Redding North, an IHG Hotel

This hotel converted in January from a Ramada to a Holiday Inn Express (the Wi-Fi captive portal still says Wyndham). The renovated lobby and room looks great and has been very well-maintained. A number of complaints though: when I checked in, the front desk agent said ”You know our elevator is broken, right?” No, of course I didn't know that. The lobby coffee had a ton of grounds in it. They're still using the small plastic bottles for shower liquids. They had four conditioners, but no shampoos in my room; they said they ran out. The doors and windows let in quite a bit of hallway and freeway noise. The parking lot could use a blowing. There was no orange juice or apple juice at breakfast, but otherwise it was very good.

Newly opened Holiday Inn Express at the site of the old Ramada, in northern Redding right on I-5. The newly designed rooms are spacious and comfortably furnished. Everything is spotlessly clean. The indoor pool is a bit small, and unfortunately there is no whirlpool. The WiFi was unstable and stopped working completely late in the evening. Breakfast was of the usual high standard for Holiday Inns, with hot dishes (scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns), waffles and pancakes to make yourself, as well as bagels and cereal.
