Come here for Sunday dinner, and safe to say it was the worse Sunday dinner I’ve ever had. Serving Frozen yorkshire puddings, I had the national depot of mashed potatoe on my plate, why do I need so much mash in fact why do I even need mash when I have roast potatoes. Doesn’t say on the menu that I had that it come with mash, the roast potatoes were as dry as a nuns **** beef was dry, gammon was moist but very very bland no taste to it, and to top it off I didn’t even ask for gammon lol but I couldn’t even be bothered to change it. Don’t understand how you can get a roast dinner so wrong one of the easiest meals to make and it wasn’t even busy. I’ve had a better meal at a carvery, and there’s even a sign saying home made Only decent thing I had here was a pint of Guinness, shame really as it’s a really nice old fashioned boozer.

As hubby and I had worked late in the local area we both decided to have a bite to eat here before heading home. So glad we chose to eat here. On entering the pub we were given a warm welcome from the landlord who we later found out was called Bob. He was very jolly, friendly, helpful and smartly dressed. Our drinks order was taken and these were brought over to the table along with some menus. We both had the homemade soup of the day which was vegetable, very thick, creamy and extremely delicious for our starter. Hubby then had the homemade lasagne served with garlic bread, it looked and he said it tasted great. I had the gammon and all the trimmings which was cooked to perfection. All the meals were served on hot plates which we like, presented well and very ample sized portions. It was obvious that all was homemade, non of this microwave rubbish and we must pass on our compliments to the chef. We were both too stuffed to have or even share a sweet but the selection on offer looked mouth watering! The pub although not over busy had a lovely atmosphere to it, was clean, tidy and tastefully decorated. All drinks and meals were very reasonably priced and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. On finding out that they also have hotel rooms above which are reasonably priced we have planned a return visit in the near future. We can highly recommend anyone calling in here for a bite to eat or even just for a drink and look forward to returning there ourselves.

Visited the Lord Nelson for something to eat and drink on a Wednesday evening, the Guinness is always very good here and didn’t disappoint, I had the Roast Beef dinner and my wife had the Chilli and rice, both meals were excellent and service was very good, had a glass of Merlot with my meal that is served at exactly the right temperature. Definitely recommend this place for quality and value for money.

Food was spot on & absolutely lovely, clearly home cooked & not microwaved like some places, so compliments to the chef!! Unfortunately the bar staff didn’t appear very welcoming, a smile costs nothing & makes so much difference, this was a shame because with the right level of hospitality this would be a fantastic place. I would’ve given a 5 star review as it is a very lovely looking place with heaps of potential, lovely beer garden too in the right weather. I will return & hopefully will give my next visit a 5 star review

This is a cheap and cheerful town centre pub. Friendly welcoming reasonable prices The ale on tap is gorgeous Proper homemade chips We had chicken sharing platter all served hot and was as expected This is what we call convenient pub food Served quickly and a quick pint just what was needed today. We often just drive around on a day off and find somewhere we haven’t been before We’ve booked a hotel room local and are coming back for the karaoke on Saturday very large friendly pub

The pub was clean, warm and inviting on a cold winters day. We were seved by the landlord who was friendly and welcoming. I was given good information about the ales available as small talk was made. There was a good choice of meals available from the menu and specials were also available. The food was served in good time and was thoroughly enjoyed. The toilets were clean and well maintained. Our only regret is that living in Cornwall, we are unable to visit again.
