Awesome, relaxing staycation! From the moment we arrived we knew this was going to be a memorable stay as the Owners (Oscar & Stephen) was there to greet us, gave a tour of this castle/mantion. They are kind hearted people doing lots of social and community work in the area. During the castle tour, we liked another suite and host let us upgrade since it was available at no charge. At this place, they care about you, having good time; no haggling about anything monetory. Ambience is such a gorgeous we were awestruck, indoor full of decorative antiques, play activities and Christmas charm!!! We are still here, will update this after our stay and before coming back!! Breakfast was out of the world! Never expected multi course morning meal prepared by the owner himself!! Victorian Dish with a pinch of asian twist was mind blowing!! Highly recommended!!!

Thanks to a remarkable woman who loved her childhood home so much that she lived most of her ninety-six years there, you can travel back in time to the Gilded Age on your next trip to Reading, PA. A stay at Stirling is a must for Reading history buffs, Berks County residents looking for a special night away from home, and travelers to the area looking for a one-of-a-kind experience. Parking is easy. Charles Evans Cemetery is directly across the street, the Berks History Center is within walking distance, First Energy Stadium is less than a mile away, and Santander Arena is less than two. Staying at Stirling is like staying at a museum or on a movie set, but the current owners make their guests feel right at home…if you can imagine your home being a grand mansion filled with antique furniture, pianos, a billiards room, stained glass windows, exquisite fireplaces, and chandeliers. You might expect stuffy service in such opulent surroundings, but that is not the case at Stirling. I had a friendly text chat with one of the owners shortly after I made my reservation. Then, just before my stay, he went above and beyond to accommodate my last-minute requests. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the owner’s sister, who showed me around the first floor, which is available to guests, and escorted me to my room. She asked what time I wanted to have breakfast and said I could let her know later that night. The next morning, she served a delicious breakfast in the formal dining room. At every turn, my Stirling hosts were flexible, gracious, and welcoming. They are excellent stewards of Gertrude Sternbergh’s home.

This might be a long review, so please read to the end. My daughter has a cheer competition today which has drawn in teams from all over the nearby area. I live in Arlington and she lives in Chantilly. My wife and I had planned to go up and stay elsewhere as my daughter had elected to go with a friend and her friend's mother. Unfortunately, she was unable to attend with them because she became very ill, yet still needs to compete. I called around to various hotels, but all that was left at the major chains were King beds into which a rollaway bed wasn't permitted due to fire safety concerns. So, I called The Gables and spoke to Cesar, the owner. I explained to him the situation and asked if we'd be able to stay at the hotel past checkout so that my daughter could sleep as long as possible in hopes that she'd feel better. Not only did he allow us to stay as long as necessary, but he put me in contact with his sister who would be in charge when I arrived. I explained the situation to her and she was waiting at the hotel when we arrived. Immediately she took my daughter up to our room while I brought in the luggage and completed check in with her. She provided a brief tour of the area and showed me where I could find tea, hot water, and other things to make my daughter more comfortable. She also kindly offered a glass of wine since I'd just completed a three hour drive. As we're checking out today, I inquired how late we could stay and both Cesar and his sister said not to worry. Cesar even offered that his sister had previously worked in healthcare and to let her know if we needed any medicine. To say that they've been accommodating is an understatement. The team here at The Gables is the best service I've experienced in years and I'm only giving 5 stars because I can't give more. The breakfast was delicious and the hotel itself is phenomenal. Thank you so much to Cesar and the team here - you all really outdid yourselves. We will certainly return!

We loved this special place - a historically preserved mansion from the late 1800’s with original details, large comfortable rooms. There is a pool which is refreshing. Cesar, the owner was attentive and responsive. Food delicious! Recommend!

Stunning! Warm & welcoming! A truly positive and memorable stay with a host that is outstanding in every way. What a story! What generosity! Cesar has lovingly cared for this historic mansion and it is obvious from the moment you pull up. Our room with a fireplace was so cozy and comfortable. We slept well. Our breakfast was delicious with coffee that was bold and hot. I would love to have an event here. It is all so impressive. We arrived as they were decorating for Christmas...magical! We will be back.

What a hidden gem. This glorious estate mansion had been converted into a B&B and it is amazing. The history, the mansion itself and especially the owner, Cesar and his sister, Jeanette. Lovely breakfast served every morning and the rooms are so roomy and kept historically correct. The gardens and pool are inviting and relaxing.

This extraordinary mansion was absolutely stunning. We stayed in the main house which we highly recommend. The rooms were gorgeous. Took us back to the Victorian Age. The owner and staff were extremely accommodating and friendly, especially Maria. She made us feel at home and served us a delicious breakfast. We will definitely come back if we’re traveling in the area again.

Charming, beautiful old mansion and property. Everybody was inviting, nice and helpful. Will definitely go back again. We loved all of the old architecture, woodwork and stonework. The property itself feels secluded despite it being in the middle of a busy area. Just an absolute gem.
