So I'm writing this review in my hotel room Riu Palace Boa Vista and I will try to be objective. I have divided my review in 3 parts, good, no opinion and bad. This review is my personal experience and others will clearly see things differently. I travelled from Bristol, late October 2024, my wife and I paid around £3300 for 7 days. This is our first visit to the island. Good On arrival at the hotel,my wife and I were greeted with a cool drink which was a lovely touch. The hotel reception is immaculate and luggage is ported for onward delivery to your room. The airport is only a 10 minute bus journey away and was quite quaint....as in underdeveloped. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. They appear very happy and are a credit to the hotel. The beach is large, clean, and beautiful. Its not overly busy, has copious free sun beds and is located next to the hotel for ease of access, the sea is warm, clean and rather lovely....there are rocks under the surface in a few places. The rooms are spacious, well designed, and are incredibly clean. They have a wonderful and spacious shower and room cleaning service is daily. The cleaners are a credit to the hotel. Balcony view over sand dunes, a well stocked free fridge with drinks and air conditioning. The grounds around the hotel are beautifully maintained. There is a free coffee shop in reception, we didn't spend any money, although there is a nice shop on site which didn't appear over pricey. Lovely winter sun with a pleasant breeze, so beware of sun burn as it can be deceptive. No opinion There are no mosquitoes in Cape Verde, however, flies are everywhere. They pitch on you on the beach and on your food whilst you are eating. It's a hot country so to be expected The sea safety flag was constantly on red, which most people ignored. The life guards appeared unconcerned. Free roaming dogs, cats and donkeys. If you walk right along the beach, you pass the blue striped light house but beyond there things turn slightly grotty, until you arrive at the local town. The town appears run down and might be expected from an underdeveloped country. I enjoyed my walk of 3 hours but wouldn't return. I felt safe. There is nothing to do outside the hotel, there is no local town, market or anything. The hotel is it. There are excursions you can take, but only being here 7 days, we didn't bother.you might like this or you might not. After 6 days I was feeling slightly stir crazy. There are lots of children, which is perfect if you have children. The hotel next door is adults only and would have been a better choice for us. You cannot go between each hotel as I was stopped by security from entering, which is absolutely fine, however, it would have allowed a view of that hotel for a future trip. The beach is quiet enough to find peace. The pools less so..this is either a positive or negative depending on your circumstances. I spoke with the TUI reps twice, they appeared disinterested and quickly referred you to
