Beautiful location and for the most part the service was great. First the pluses ....beach is super and the staff down by the beach was friendly and welcoming and they do a great job of creating safety (lots of lifeguard drills it appeared!) and overall the sense of a lovely vacation feel. There are golf carts to take you everywhere on the property, which is pretty necessary as the property is steep and quite spread out. You just give a call and someone shows up in minutes. Many of the drivers have a great personality, just made it surprising when a few of them seemed not friendly--and for us there was no need to speak English--I was always happy to try my Spanish! Ditto for the staff in the main restaurant--some were friendly and welcoming and a few others were all business and not very welcoming or patient. On with the plus items...the beds are very comfortable, rooms are private and quiet, and the policy of free mini bar snacks (with free restocking) is wonderful! The monkeys and iguanas --and sloths--on the property are terrific. There is a dinner in the beach restaurant on Wednesdays, Sats and Suns and since we were only there for the Wed dinner, I wish that the staff at breakfast had reminded us of it and also, there could be a small guide in the room that would include the beach dinner evening schedule as well as a map of the nature trail --with distances. We wanted to walk it ourselves, without their guide, but didn't have a good sense of the overall length of the trail. There was a little sense that they wanted to encourage us to sign up for their guided (for a fee) walk. The food in the main restaurant was good, but not exceptional and the dinners are quite expensive. The breakfast has many choices and again, it's good but not exceptional--but nice that it's included in the room price. Overall, however, it's a lovely place, clearly the nicest place to stay in Manuel Antonio, but also quite pricey, which you know if you're reading this! Trip.com had the best price by far, at least for November.

Arenas del Mar was everything our family hoped for and then some. Food was excellent, wildlife everywhere, amazing staff and service, close to many activities that the coordinated for us. We will definitely be back. If a 6 star rating was offered I would choose it.

Besides being a beautiful rainforest resort on the beach, the staff is welcoming and accommodating. From ensuring we had a room on the 1st floor for my mother, to inviting and engaging conversations, my mother and I felt like we were home. Unfortunately, I endured a severe accident on an excursion off the property. I called the resort, and the concierge team quickly jumped into action, connecting me with an urgent care clinic the resort had a relationship with and knew would provide me the best care. Similarly, they had staff continuously checking on my 71-year-old mother, who was at the resort during the time of the accident. They also ensured food was sent to my room when I returned from the clinic. And, yes, even the food is good at the resort. It's fresh and healthy! I wanted to give a very special thank you to Derian Jimenez and his team, specifically Krishne, who orchestrated my care and supported my mother during a nightmare event. Thank you to Brian Lopez, who always took time to check on me and my mother. I definitely will be returning soon. God bless you guys, and thank you again.

Our stay here was fabulous. The views of the ocean were amazing. They had beach chairs and bar service on the beach. We saw lots of animals: iguana, crabs, agouti, monkeys, and even a boa constrictor! From our room window, an iguana came everyday to see us and sunbathe. The staff was top notch. They were always very helpful and kind. I booked all our tours through the hotel. Julian was our guide for two of the tours and he was very good and nice. The Nauyaca waterfall tour was the best! The breakfast was delicious. They had a lot of variety on their menu. Their transport service to local restaurants was way better than calling a taxi. Loved the golf cart service to get you around the property. We will definitely come back! Thank you so much for a lovely vacation.

Food was the best we ate in the whole of Costa Rica, we had every meal in the hotel - breakfast, lunch on the beach and dinner during our 3 night stay. Enjoyed watching the monkeys, sloths and the Scarlet Macaws, as well as huge Iguanas and lots of crabs. Enjoyed sitting on the beach each afternoon after our morning excursions watching the waves. It was a bit rough for us to feel confident enough to go for a swim. It was extremely hot and humid during our visit so we got round the hotel using the readily available golf buggies. The hotel is very spread out and housed in different buildings so if mobility is an issue for you be sure to ask for a ground floor room, ours was up 6 flights of stairs. Also not easy to walk elsewhere, albeit we enjoyed a short walk along the gorgeous beach. Staff were very good and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at the hotel. The grounds are beautiful and you feel totally isolated. After long hot mornings out on tour it was wonderful to be able to relax at the beach and enjoy lunch on a chaise lounge. Prices for dinner are not cheap, but enjoyable. However after spending $38 on a main shrimp dish, to be charged $7 additionally for rice is something that seemed to be a little much. All of the staff are personable and kind and well trained. They know their guests by name and really aim to please. We enjoyed our ocean view premium suite with the wrap around balcony - to see the sunset there at night and sunrise in the morning soothed the soul!

Absolutely stunning location with luxurious suites. We spent our holiday relaxing in the private beach, walking around the trails in the resort and viewing the wildlife( monkeys, sloths, iguanas, macaws) around the property. We never had to or wanted to leave the property during our stay. The lifeguards at the beach and the golf cart crew exemplified out of the world service that you would expect at a 5 star resort. 1 area that left us wanting was the restaurant - the wait times were long, the staff was moody and our orders were often mixed up.

A real mixed bag. Beautiful location with wonderful facilities and great staff with a good service mentality. However, bedrooms have a 3-4 star feel ; more like a Spanish holiday resort on the Costa Brava than Costa Rica. Housekeeping was a little hit and miss. On occasions the hotel served brilliant food but often it was disappointing e.g 3 breakfasts out of 4 had to be returned as hot food was served cold.

Arenas Del Mar was the 4th stop in our large family trip to Costa Rica and we (group of 11, age 8-74) were blown away by the hotel. This is some of the most consistent, kindest, sincere individualized customer service I have experienced at any hotel anywhere in the world - from the welcome desk, reception, restaurant staff, beachfront staff and the friendly and ever present golf cart drivers who shuttle you on this uniquely beautiful property situated in a jungle adjacent to a beautiful beach. The water was warm and we all went in and had some fun with the waves at the hotels private beach, where lunch could also be served. On our first day there were 3 sloths hanging out by the trees near the beach - wow! Pools were small but nice. The property and spaces are beautifully designed and the lobby and beach views serene. We appreciated the emphasis on sustainability - didn’t spot a plastic bottle, straw or bag here or at any of the hotels we stayed at on our trip. I would like to shoutout Ranses who worked by the beach and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and welcome, as well as hosting painting and bracelet making classes that our family enjoyed. Alejandro who manages the restaurant also went above and beyond to make our family welcome, even meeting us to say goodbye at 6am which I knew was before his shift! We had early tours and an early departure - the restaurant kindly packaged up food and coffees for us to have on the bus, labeled with each of our names and delivered to our bus! The hotel also gave us a free load of laundry per room (much appreciated on a long trip!) and totally free minibar snacks and drinks - a small touch but nice and my son really liked the chocolate covered pineapple snacks in there :) There are carbon monoxide detectors in all rooms after a tragedy here in March 2025. We felt safe, though our hearts go out to the family that was affected. Manuel Antonio park at first blush seems like it’s going to be a crowded nightmare but with a great guide you will really see all sorts of amazing flora and fauna. We had Rodolfo (Rudy) Guzman and he was incredible, and should be a National Geographic photographer! Overall, this was my favorite place we stayed at in CR (high bar as our stays in Guanacaste, Arenal and Monteverde were also great). We had a memorable, luxurious experience at this hotel at the end of our trip. My highest recommendation for Arenas Del Mar!
